Reflections Of A Member Of The Class 0 1958 As I prepare to graduate in june, I am constantly asked if I have fulfilled all the graduation requirements. Upon reflection I conclude I have, but what do you l958ers think? Let me briefly review the facts. Last summer I learned to type, and I trust Mrs. Lawyer feels I have met her requirements of adequate work. Certainly I can say that I have made, not one, but several senior speeches in chapel this year. To be sure, the subjects were not passed by Miss Wilson nor rehearsed by anyone. Would you be willing to consider all the recommendations I have written for you for college my senior source theme? They have taken research, have followed an outline, and have been rewritten several times for good mechanics and good sentence structure. It is true that I have not taken the S.A.T. nor any of the College Board Examinations, but I am one of the fortunate few whose future plans do not require them, so why take them? I have never used the Senior Room except for senior meetings, for I prefer the peace and quiet of my assigned study hall on the first floor. There is still time for me to order a senior dessert and you can be sure it will be one which disregards calories. I shall not be eligible for Cum Laude as my work in a previous school brought me membership. Last Chapel will find me with my classmates, though I do not aspire to any of the awards given on that occasion. My diploma at commencement will be the happy and lasting memories of your fine singing and the simple and beautiful service all of us have grown to admire and love. All of you must know that each class as it graduates from our school becomes an intrinsic and vital part of the history, the spirit, and the development of the school and that it would be impossible to tell which class had the greater share. However, to a headmistress, the first senior class of her administration and the last class will have a special place in her heart and memories. For that reason, the class of 1931 and the class of 1958 will always have special meaning to me. Like all of you graduating on June fifth, I shall have my nostalgic moments, my regrets that the end has come, my anticipation of the future and my enduring love and loyalty to our Laurel. I shall have a heart full of happy memories, of lasting friend- ships, of a student body responsive and co-operative, and my regret will be that I have overlooked opportunities to be of greater help and inspiration to Laurel faculty and students. To the class of 1958, I give my deep affection and best wishes for their success all through their lives. Tis not in mortals to command success, But we'll do more, Sompronius, we'll deserve it. Edna F. Lake

Creeping out of these pages are fifty-nine of the most despicable characters in Cleveland. How in the world they have ever become lovable - every last hall-running roof-climbing, murder-minded one of them - is a mystery understood only by the faculty, underclassmen and the most famous and awesome of the graduates of 1958 Miss Lake. For it is they who have guided the senior class through its years at Laurel How can we thank the faculty for leading us through the labyrinthine processes of learning? Perhaps when Carolyn finally perfects a fuelless rocket, Miss Henderson will know that her timely, teacherly warning the first woman President, Miss Florance will And when Ruth produces a new and revised Latin, Miss Siedler will realize that her work took real effect. When Marcia becomes undoubtedly take pride in the knowledge version of the Bible translated back into will not have been in vain. Therefore, we are sure that the exodus of the class of 1958 from Laurel will mark the commencement of a new and entirely different era. Laurel Leaves taff Editor Le..L.L.... .....
