The faculty also have an opportunity to exert their superior skill and cunning in a Faculty-Student baseball game. The whole atmosphere of the party is one of picnic style, where everyone has as much food as possible and as much fun as possible. Later in the evening the dramatic artists of the school put on a very excellent program under the direction of Miss Hodgman, to show the unlucky outsiders what we really can do. Laurel opens its doors to parents. friends, little and big sisters and brothers, and tries to show everyone a good time and also a bit of its generous hospitality. 701 X I Do You Remember When? nl he Class of 50 yy on llae Tax Stamp Drxye as Freshmen yye yy on the gym meet for keeptng qutet Ann Lowry made her dramatlc entrance Jo threyy a green team cap up on the chandelter yye made a brg hat as Oklahoma thanks to Patsy e French trap lost MISS Geffen tn the wllds of Southern Ohto ae skr trrp spent the ntght rn the bus t e sk1 tr1p just d1dnt go e yyhlte team Hnally vyon the gym meet kay gaye forth a blood eurdllng scream yye had our Hrst stmp day the Laurel stage was Beyyxtched Betsy lkllngeman was eyer serlous tlae Danee Club learned to slrde on th lr stomachs Claotr went flat an oyyl attended our Commencement LXLTCISLQ Ruthie recelved a telegram durtng d1nner Flsh aequlred a new pm lf yy as posslble to study tn benror Room U S requested l aurelltes for therr gym meet Xlary Ellen took the mrmeograph machlne apart and eouldnt get ll baek together Xl1ss Andrews was carrred IH on a stretcher the Senlors wore thelr Sprtng umforms for the flrst tlme the Laurel Leayes Board eyer relaxed our class took up the Ukulele as Slde enjoy ment Gyyrll ran xnto the gym yyall Xlass XX'yant eyer stopped grymg her best adylee and gurdanee to Laurel leayes rt yyas easy to get out of gym Patsy arrtyed at school just back from Europe the faculty put on thexr XX1ld XX est melodrama Xllss Tomlrn yyas a tree l ons cut her halr yye spent yyeekends at the Qleyeland lrbrary the loyy er school thought Qhrlstmas X aeatlon yy as too long yye all trled to learn the Hula a sunlamp Ian was fashlonable Sollace eyer made gym on t1me Xlrss l ake yy as a Yankee Fan Herman dred our poor gulnea prg yye all know you remember mama l7l L ' L R li l I li 'X X' lu 9 V , . - .V .V 0 V V V V VV . e V V VV V V V VV VV V V V V V V V VV VV V V V V e VV V V V e e . ' Ab EAVE red agalnst the flammg banners of a Spamsh sunset The galleons are gone from the seas but they remam to me now symbols of htgh romance So ln those battles nattons were born and lost hlstory was changed Many explorers faced the sea challenged the ha7ards of shlpwreck and starvatlon and drought and many faced these ha7ards ln a shnp no larger than our ferry boats But they challenged not only the vlolence and the storms but thelr own fear of the unknown Some of them conquered If but many did not Many of them l1e now mn the arms of the CllI1glI'lg sea weed but those others Columbus Magellan Balboa they challenged and they conquered fear So now the mast of a lone shlp pOlI1flI1g to the north star has become the symbol of Man s challenge to the unknown They had set out knowlng Before them not the ghost of shores Before them only shoreless seas The real power of the sea controlled these battles and these men But hold tn her wrmkled grasp thelr mmds as well And what challenge to the 1mag1nat1on lS stronger than the challenge of the unknown world beneath the waters I have always longed to go down to the depths of the sea to sunk slowly mto the cool water to have the arch of sky above dlsappear and the waters close gently above my head I would not find below there the darkness and slxmy rocks of the real ocean floor for tn xmagmatxon I would v1s1t the under water world of the poets The dragon green the lummous the dark the serpent haunted sea I would wander through green waters and Gnd lost caverns where tangled blue shadows of l1l1es fall upon the Hoof swayxng as the llll6S sway to the movement of the txdes I would see dxmly wrecks of shxps and rudders that for a hundred years had lost the sway of human hand Wanderxng there I mxght perhaps stumble upon something beneath my careless feet and would see washed by the wanton tndes the maglc wand and book of Prospero hurled there despatrmgly by a masters hand They w1ll he there always now lost ln the greenness of the water for what hand would be worthy to pnck them up?
