Tunstall Match Wrestlers' Best The first two weeks of wrestling were certain and unstable. People were ming and going. There were dif- 'ent people at practice every day. tally however, the team got a little are organized and the coach, Jessie mach, got the team down to some rious practice. The team's main setback was a lack experience. Over half the team con- :ted of first year members. Still there are a few outstanding first year mem- frs like Paul Millner who took a cond place medal in the 155 pound weight class at the Henry County Tour- nament held at Fieldale-Collinsville. The team was disappointed when they saw loss after loss. They were closest to a victory in a match against Tunstall in which Laurel Park lost by only ten points. The student body got a taste of wrestling this year with three matches being held during the school day. The first match was a regular season match against Tunstall. The second match during the school day was the district tournament in which six members of the team advanced to regional com- petition. They were Mike Simpson in the 126 pound weight class, Todd Martin at 138, David Bray at 145, Paul Millner at 155, Mac Houchins at 167, and Marvin Fioy at 185. Second year wrestler Robbie Cox had this to say about wrestling: lf more people came out for wrestling and took it seriously, we would have a better team. I think that we had some good talent on the team and they proved it in our better matches. V Saw Paul Millner and Tommy Wildman Shupe warm up in preparation forthe district tourna- ment. Both Laurel Park wrestlers Todd Martin and Paul Millner are controlling their men during the district meet. Wrestling 79

Basketball - Instant Replay What can one really say about the varsity basketball team? This season seemed to be an instant replay of last season, which was an instant replay of the season before, etc. This year's team wasn't really all that big. It was like play- ing musical chairs with a basketball team. Players were quitting, some were added, ones who had quit returned, and even some were dropped. When all was over, eleven regulars remained. As for how the season went, the team's opening game was a close one with G.W. Carver. The latter pulled ahead in the last quarter to win 179-71J. Like the opening game, the rest of the season was filled with mostly losses. Laurel Park's only two victories were over Bassett Q68-643 and Patrick Coun- lwl,,i , , savers waxy, ,,.. ,.,,... . .....
