A Very Good Year For the Academic Competitors l For forensics -- lt was a very bod year. For the first time in fe years someone went to state ompetition, in fact, two mmeones. Cindy Young went in :temperaneous and Chris Mar- i in boys prose reading. For oth it represented the culmina- an of three years of competition. ary Hodge almost went the dis- nce. She placed third in Region in girls' prose reading after tak- g second in the Piedmont Dis- ct and first place in Henry County. At the district meet Kevin Hollandsworth and Karen Millner placed third in original oratory and poetry reading. At theiHenry County meet Karen again took third, and Victor Dillard took second in poetry. And alternate, David Hairston, who agreed to compete on a few hours notice, took second place in extem- peraneous speaking giving the team enough points for a second place county finish. At the Theater Festival at Bassett High School, March 7, the one-act play cast was given a distinguished participant rating and sent on to the Regiona Ill Festival. Their play, l.et's Get Out of Here, was rehearsed on weekends and during time squeezed into the daily schedule because all three cast members had afternoon jobs. Their's was the first play to go to Regional competition from Laurel Park since 1975. Chris Martin and Lori Meredith rehearse for the Theater Festival entry Let's Get Out of Here.
