A Spoonful of Sugar Makes the Chekov Go Down . . . The first play of the 1980-81 school year, The Good Doctor, was presented to the public but not without a short run of delays. Originally planned for a December showing, the play had to be moved into the month of January because of a few difficulties. Props were not fully ready and some of the cast members had trouble in remembering their lines. Written by Neil Simon, and based on the writings of Chekov the play was divided into two acts with each act consisting of separate skits. In all, seven skits were to be presented. The play was very demanding in that several people had more than one character to portray. During the weeks of rehearsal, signs of wear were present on everyone but not as much as they were present on play director John Myers. Finally on January 21 and 22 of 1981, The Good Doc- tor was ready tor an audience. Despite all of the problems in the past, the presentation went on rather well and mis- takes, if any, were only minor ones and they went un- noticed. 42 The Good Doctor As the Writer, Steve Vaughan narrates the stories of Anton Checkov. Ricky Jamison begins his Sneeze while watching an opera with his wife, Pam Mabe, and the Brassihovs played by Pam Wimbush and Michael Watkins.
