CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND CLASSES Better Community Involvement Show and held a Mother- Daughter banquet at which Delegate Mary Sue Terry was the guest speaker. At the monthly meetings the members planned a tentative picnic and worked on a program of work in business planning. Old traditions seemed to change or fade a little this year for the French Club seemed to have grown a new face. Years past have seen initiations with everything from pajamas to Napoleon uniforms. This year saw only tags of different French monuments and signs. Membership seemed to be helped by the lighter attitude and the list of stunts that could be performed which had in years past been informal and unwritten. Mardi Gras changed this year also. Instead of being scheduled at night it was moved to right after school because of low past atten- dance. The crazy costumes were also left in the past. This year the French Club spon- sored a show for small children at the spring fair. As always, the F.F.A. grew in numbers this year. This was the largest club at school this year. Active was one way to describe the Laurel Park F.F.A. this year. Hyper-active was a better way. There seemed to be at least one activity for each of the 100 members. Ringing a Salvation Army bell, assisting with the Jaycees haunted castle, and making extra contributions to the S.C.A. canned food drive were just some of the ac- tivities. Selling oranges, floral arrangements, candy and flower bulbs. The chapter bought them- selves a 35mm camera this year also to help with record keeping and the chapter scrapbook. Mr. Bill Curry, the physics teacher, passes out a test. This year a teacher had to be imported to teach physics after Mr. Charles Hairston left. Mr. Curry is from Drewry Mason. After explaining the oil monopoly system, Mr. Marshall, one of the two Virginia and U.S. History teachers, shows one of the few filmstrips shown in his class this year. Jo Jo Gillespie takes notes on fund raising ideas while David Hairston listens. Clubs and Organizations 39
