CLUBS, ORGANIZATIONS AND CLASSES lnitiations Not So Embarrassing better the Spanish Club. Each year our club seems to be more active than the last, commented Mrs. Francis Leeper, the sponsor of the Spanish Club. This seems to be holding true, for the Spanish Club broadened its horizons this year. ln addition to the traditional ringing of the Salvation Army bell, the club also participated in the rock-n- roll jamboree, which was a drive for the Heart Fund, rais- ing almost S300.00. The Spanish Club visited Cave Spring High School in the fall to view a group of Spanish dancers that toured from Puerto Rico, and they visited Hollins College to watch several Spanish skits and dances. The annual fiesta was held April 24th and the traditional Spanish assembly was held during that week. Although participation dropped in D.E.C.A. this year, Christmas just wouldn't have been the same without them. Fundraising was one of the principal activities of the D.E.C.A. Club members sold Stuffed animals, Christmas wrapping paper, jewelry and various other nicknacks and collectables. Some of the money that the club raised was used for buy- ing flowers for Mrs. Hager and Mrs. Thomas who were both out of school for medical reasons. Twenty-five dollars was also contributed to the Thomas Fund. The club also spent some more money on a field trip to Virginia Tech where some members attended business meetings and competitions. The D.E.'ers also attended a Hokie football game. The F.H.A. was not as ac- tive as in years past stated sponsor Ann Chaney, but this was the first year a member of the F.H.A. has gone on to ma- jor in home economics. Janet Bryant, the president of the F.H.A. is going to major in home ec at Radford College. The club this year attended the Southern Living Christmas Mrs. Patricia Koger doctors on Robin Smith. ln addition to teaching journalism, Mrs. Koger also spon- sored the First Aid Team.
