CELEBRATION 81 AN SCA FtECEPTICN Prince, Slave, Blondie, and the Gap Band were among the stars who showed up for the Laurel Park's Basketball Reception. They were on records of course. Sponsored by the S.C.A., the reception for the basketball team was held on February 20th from 9:00-12:00 RM. What at first seemed to be the start of a dull evening turned out to be a fun time for practically all who at- tended. lt seems that all dances begin slowly at first but as time passes by, everyone starts to get in- volved more in what's going on whether it is out on the dance floor or beside a table covered with food. It took Kano's l'm Ready to get things really going and from then until 12:00 RM., things started happening. After collecting money for two hours, SCA President Michelle Wilson fakes a little graft for the photographers. CLUBS AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS Participation Varies Participation in organiza- tions and clubs varied this year. While some clubs in- creased in numbers, there were others that suffered a noticeable loss. This year, more clubs were involved with community charities and ac- tivities: Christmas Cheer, the Heart Fund, Easter Seals, and Salvation Army took priority over field trips and assem- blies. It seemed as if all the clubs of this year were working toward a common cause - to better the community. Holding all the clubs and organizations together and urging participation in each was the S.C.A. This year, as with every other year, the student council was one of the most active organizations in the school. Composed of approximately 50 students representing each grade level, the S.C.A. spon- sored school dances, assem- blies, and community tund- raisers. Jan Eggleston, vice- president, stated, The student council betters the relationship between the students and the faculty. President Michelle Wilson simply commented, The S.C.A. is the backbone of the school. Truly, the student govern- ment is the backbone of the school. Along with collecting money for the Crop Walk, Christmas Cheer, and Multiple Sclorosis Fund, the S.C.A. sponsored activities and assemblies for the school such as the door decorating contest at Christmas and the annual spring fair. This organization coordinates the Homecoming Dance in the fall and the basketball reception in the winter. In the spring, the student government used Laurel Park as a local chapter for the Blood Mobile and collected its quota of 70 pints. Every year we have gotten pf lie Sybil Witcher and Gloria Fuller review an absentee list in their P.E. class. Kelly Stultz reviews a typing assign- ment beiore submitting it to Mrs. Hager. On the F.F.A. fieldtrip to Busch Gar- den, Eddie Powers, Charles Maxey, Randy Cook, and Jerry Lovell, walt for the terry to take them to Williamsburg. Clubs and Organizations 33
