Their “true Lancer Spirit” was evidential of these abilities combined with the support offered by the student body. The coaches were Jim Summey and John Mallory. Lancer Cross-Country Team Has Undefeated Record FRONT ROW: Marvin Cook, Marty Elliot, Lamont Hilton, Clarence Elliot, Lloyd Dickerson, Donald Schmidt, Coach Jim Arnold Ashby, Michael Hairston. BACK ROW: George Giles, Fred Tinsley, Albert Cabiness, Long-winded Lancer runners proved to be the swiftest over the 2.5 miles of rolling terrain and asphalt road which compose the cross-country track. The 1970 team, coached by Jim Summey, won all district meets and participated well in three invitationals. The most out- standing of these runners was Mike Hairston who gained recognition through his ability to run the course in top record time.
