a oo Ress UNC eps, PO i eas Laurel Park High School la irgini V insville, Volume I Mart iin ‘There is nothing in life like making a good start...” Richard Ford ... and no greater sense of accomplishment than doing so. To work with a clean slate and later make a solid foundation is indeed a great achievement. It is needless to say the beginning is the most difficult; and if and when the beginning is successfully started, the future will be thriving. Something is to be said of students who come in as strangers to each other and their surroundings and leave feeling united as one school. Becoming number one in sports, not to mention the progress of various other organizations and activities, is a milestone in the future prosperity of Laurel Park, and may it be only a start toward its growth and betterment. rt MASSES ree Organizations: Pe 8. ACHIVItICS, 4 3Ge Sports: “ese Cheer ee Timothy Hairston, although blind, is “nothing short of fantastic.”” With much determination, this amazing indiy- idual attended the Virginia School at Hampton and is now attending our school. It takes a strong will for Timothy to walk the crowded and confused halls without a guide, but he has long withstood those minor, yet major, obstacles. He has built a reputation as one of Laurel Park’s excelling students by his good grades and his participation in school activities. It is truly a wonder how one can go through life without the ability to see—Tim is facing the future with courage of his convictions. New Faculty Further Strengthens James Merriman Clyde Dillard Principal Assistant Principal Laurel Park High has been most fortunate this year to have as principal, Mr. James Merriman, and as assistant principal, Mr. Clyde Dillard. By using every talent they had, these well-rounded individuals helped to make every day a pleasure for students. Never too busy to stop and listen or to make an intelligent reply, these men helped, with speed and determination, to get our school started. They deserve great credit for helping our school to become one of the best in the county. 4 | | Educational Program Isla Scarce Radford College, B.S. English 9 Mary Dickerson Bluefield State, B.S. Rives, Superintendent of Schools, heads the Board in making serious decisions which deal with the future of our school, as well as others. Our appreciation and thanks are well deserved by the Board, for without them our school would not have been able to meet the requirements to be accredited as a member of the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Col- leges. Therefore, the administration and students would like to express their deepest gratitude toward the Board for all the contributions they have made for L.P.H.S. Branch K. Our book was published with- out the support of advertisements, how- ever, next year we will have a full cover- age book as we are starting on next year’s publication immediately. Finally we would like to thank the students and faculty for their most appreciated cooper- ation in making this annual a success. Activities 48 Davis, Sports Editor; Linda Mason, Editor.
