industrial arts An important part in every girl’s training is instruction in home econ- omics. Laurel is privileged in offer- ing an excellent course. Patience and a helping hand are a few of the qualities which Mrs. Platt, the instructor, displays. In future years, many girls will be thankful for their classes in home economics. Future draftsmen, machinists, car- penters, and craftsmen receive their basic training in the industrial arts department. Long hours are spent learn- ing the skills in machine operation and design. Students certainly enjoy the op- portunity of using their hands to create original designs.

A subject which is essential in every- day life is mathematics. Any ambition undertaken will require the basic funda- mentals of adding, subtracting, multi- plying, and dividing. Mr. Weinschenk, Mr. Watson, and Mr. Cameron strive to teach the students the value and the necessity of mathematics. Mrs. Johnston has a difficult job trying to teach the junior high students the proper way to hold an instrument besides how to play it. In music class, students sing, listen to records, and have fun. Students also learn the value of music appreciation.
