No matter whether you win or lose it's how you play the game that counts. If you have given everything you've got for something and you know you've done your best, then you can hold your head high and be proud, no matter what the results! It is a good feeling to knew you stood up and fought for what you believed important, whether it be for your tean, school, you, justice, or life itself. Don't ever give up - don't ever give in! You only live once, but if you live right, once is enough. If you think you're beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don't. If you'd like to win, but you think you can't, It's almost a cinch you won't. If you think you'll lose, you're lost. For out of the world we find Success begins with a fellow's will, It's all in the state of mind. If you think you're outclassed, you are; You've got to think high to rise. You've got to be sure of yourself before You can ever win a prize. Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster man But soon or late the man who wins. Is the one who thinks he can. They were very successful yet small, and got their nickname Mighty Midgets from Coach Matson. The team had the speed but they were lacking in big linemen. The varsity squad's record was 6-3, the losses were to Lewistowi and Glendive at home, and Miles City away. Coach Matson said the reason they did so well this year was because they're over achievers and they play as a T.E.A.M. Coach Matson also thought that the seniors had a lot to do with the success because of experience on the varsity squad since their Freshman and Sophomore years. The team captains this year were Bill Kelly, Jim O'Neil and Bryon Wagner. The team tied for third place in their conference. 48 1 2 3 1. C rystals in Color was the theme for the 1983 Winter Formal. Sac sponsored the dance and tried something new this year. Instead of hiring a band as done in previous years Sac hired three private Dd's out of Billings. They played mostly hard rock which many people found hard to dance to. Kathy Markegard commented, The irusic was to hard to dance to in a formal, but the decorations and coronation were done very nicely. The DJ's did a very good job of using special effects. They used dry ice to make a wintery effect throughout the hall. Creative lighting techniques were made with strobes and colored lights. Coronation was held at 10:00 p.m. at vrfiich time King and Queen were crowned. Gail Hart reoeived the honor of being Christmas Formal Queen and Garry Hergett King. Other Winter Formal candidates were Rick Milligan, Pat Behm, Dan Belinak, and Glenn Conner who was Prince. The girls were Lisa Pelican, Margaret Metzger, Dawn Hirschfelt, and Schellie Hansen (Princess). As in the past the Winter Formal did not go over as well as expected. After coronation most couples took off to their favorite Night Spot. 102 Variety is the Spice of Student Life 1. Don Lorfing thinks he's nuirber one, as he poses with a big smile. 2. From start to finish a very entertaining show. Traveling to the land of Oz was quite an adventure for Dorothy and her dog Toto. All starting with a tornado putting her into a land she had never heard of, she ran up against a talking scarecrow in a blue com field, a rusted tinman in an enchanted forest, and a lion who couldn't hurt anyone if he wanted to. These characters traveled on to talk to the ever-powerful Wizard to find their hearts' desires. Dorothy longed to be back in Kansas with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. The scarecrow wished he had a brain to think, and the tinman a heart so he could be a wonderful, caring person. The cowardly lion wanted courage so he could be the king of the forest. The Wizard was all willing under one condition—they first had to kill the Wicked Witch of the West. After many adventures they finally succeeded by melting the witch away like sugar with a bucket of water, the four went back and gathered their awaited gifts from the Wizard. Finding out they had vhat they longed for from the very beginning, they journeyed back to their homes. Sometimes you just have to search a little more to find your dreams. !• The Tin Man stares out in space while the scarecrow comforts the Lion who wants courage. 2. The 1984 Prom was held on April 28th, in the high school gym. The Juniors decorated the gym so it would have a ni it time effect of a City, using a skyline mural, and stars. The D'tectives played a lot of up to date music and a few slew songs. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The Grand March was at 10:00 where Karan LeOuc was crowned Qjeen and Mike Morgan, King. Other candidates were Shelly Dolechek (Princess), Kathy Markegard, Linda Sprague, Connie Gilchrist, Dale Craig (Prince), Don Smarsh, Phil Vedovatti, and Brad Chilcott. As editors of the 1984 Locomotive Yearbook we feel this book is a combination of the staffs talents. We tried new ideas and concepts to make it a special book that the Class of '84 will be proud of and always remenber. Since the staff was small and some of the members had conflicts vrfrich interfered with their sections, some of the book does not meet the quality that we wished to present to you, the students. This yearbook was quite difficult due to the fact that it was ready made. This means that everything had to be done exactly the way it was going to be printed. Also due to the lew funding we couldn't do the things we would of liked to have done. But overall it was a very worthwhile experience for both of us. We would like to thank the Journalism I students, the staff and a special thanks to Mr. Severson, our Advisor. We hope we captured a lot of memorable moments for you to remenber the school year with your friends. Shockey In memory of Chet Chet Burroughs battled cancer since his Junior year, and had learned to accept it very bravely. Three things he wanted to do were to go hunting, to have a motorcycle and to graduate. All three things came true for Chet. Some of his friends took him hunting, a Harley-Oavidson was given to him by a very caring citizen, and Chet graduated on December 2nd. Attending his graduation were his family, senior classmates, school officials, and personal friends. Mr. Matson, Physical Ed. teacher, said, We should be able to leam from all things, good and bad. It is important to keep going no matter what life gives you. He never let on to anyone hew traumatic it was for him vrfrich is unimaginable to apy of us. Chet with Donna Wallace, Chet Burroughs died on Friday March 9th, chairman of Laurel School 1984, in his heme. The funeral was held March Board. 13th at the First Congregational Church in 128 Laurel.
