The Loco's continued to show their skill throughout the season in many exciting games in spite of several injuries hampering the team. Overall, the Loco's showed a good defensive team. The offensive team played a good passing game but seemed to have trouble running the ball. In a thrilling last home game, the Locomotives beat the Anaconda Copperheads for the first time in many years. Future Teachers of America is an organization to acquaint students with the different aspects of a teaching career. One of the ways the club tried to do this in the past year was through various speakers who talked on the different fields of teaching and gave helpful ideas for future teachers. The club toured the Montana Physical Handicapped Center and student observed grade school classes for half a day. These activities helped students to better their understanding of teaching. LIBRARIANS F.H.A. The F.H.A. theme for the year was Discovering Self Through F.H.A. The first meeting held was a carnival to get acquainted with the new members. Two girls were elected as district officers at the District Convention held in Columbus-Connie O'Rear as Vice Chairman and Cathy Robertus as District Secretary. Selected delegates also participated in the State Convention in Billings. Other activities included: programs put on by members demonstrating their talents; Christmas Caroling; a spaghetti supper for parents; and an all chapter picnic. Senior Degrees were awarded to Anita Reiter, Diane Wagner, Chris Huff, Teresa Hannen, Valerie Lawson, and Joann Baker. Officers, R TO L: Sheila Stanford, Song Leader; Carla Calhoun, Historian; Pat Bernhart, Treas.; Anita Reiter, Pres; Chris Huff, Veep; Cathy Robertus, Sec.; Joann Baker, SAC Rep; Miss Morgan, Advisor. EDITORIAL BOARD J5 LAUREL LEAVES QUILL AND SCROLL TRADE AND INDUSTRIES The TGI Club meets each Wednesday evening from 7:00 p. m. to 10:00 p. m. During this time the members work on their cars as a hobby. Dues of 25 fc are charged and the money collected is used to purchase something of the members' choosing. The TGI Club serves as an agency through which parts for automobiles and miscellaneous supplies are purchased. 70 ART CLUB President-Jeff Langlinais, Veep-Cathy Sankovich, Secretary-Pati Kiklibrew, Treasurer-Debbie Cheery, S.A.C• -Debbie Dixon. The Art Club started out the year by recruiting new members and trying to make Art Club more interesting. The 1st meeting hosted Mrs. Bryan Persha with Tie-dying and Batik. Other artists met through the year were: Mr. Bryan Persha, Leroy Green, and Mr. Jessie Gleason. Trips were made to the Yellowstone Art Center, in Billings at least once a month to view work on display. The Art Club went to Great Falls the 27th and 28th of April, to participate in the Interscholastic Art Show. The Art Club also hosted the High School Art Show, the 18th of May. 71 SAC Redman, Sec-Treas. Susan Lenhardt. Sponsor: Mr. Dantic. SAC's first project this year was the annual Christmas Formal. The gymnasium was decorated in red, green, and silver, and Paz provided the music. SAC tried to change the present study hall system and obtain a student lounge. Since no final decision was reached, it will undoubtedly be discussed again next year. SAC sponsored Computimatch for the second year in a row. Students filled out a questionaire and received a list of 10 eligible dates. SAC's final project was to try to prohibit smoking during basketball games. Although smoking was not prohibited altogether, it was restricted to the south end of the main hallway. Five SAC members, Ed Neibauer, Jim Redman, Susan Lenhardt, Gary Saxbury, and Jay Gordan, attended the Montana Association of Student Councils Convention in Billings. The Laurel delegation presented a workshop on students needs. The Christmas Formal 72 HONOR SOCIETY President- Joann Baker, Vice-President-Barb Holt, Secretary-Treasurer-Teresa Hannen, SAC Representative-Chris Frank, Advisor-Chet Blaylock. This year the Honor Society visited the capital in Helena during a legislative session. Mr. Blaylock introduced the Honor Society members to influential legislators and to Lt. Governor Bill Christiansen. While enroute to the capital the Honor Society members started the now famous PIT Society. 73 ANNUAL STAFF We would like to thank everyone who worked on this annual--those who drug themselves out of bed on Saturday mornings and dozed through our workshops, those who sold ads, and those who sold subscriptions. We worked hard, but we played even harder, as indicated by the pictures. A special thanks to Marcia Kucera, who took all the wonderful snaps, and to Mr. Helgeson, who put up with us. The Editors Jack Mahan Debbie Ruff SPEECH AND DRAMA President-Cathy Sankovich, Vice-President-John Magnus, Secretary-Treasurer-Georgia Sankovich, Point Keeper-Kathy Galusha, SAC Representative-Jack Mahan, Advisor-Tom Kilpatrick. At the School Board No play had been planned for this year because no director could be found. However, a group of interested students went to the School Board to protest this decision. Therefore, one play, RUBBERNECK, was presented. The directors were Jim Hunt, West Elementary teacher, and John Stratton, High School Spanish teacher. The Ham Award recipients were Cathy Sankovich and Jack Mahan. This award is given to the senior girl and boy who have contributed the most to Speech and Drama. Logos is the natural way toward intelligent change and Delphi was believed to have been the favored city of the god Apollo. The temple of Apollo housed the oracle or prophet who uttered words from Apollo. The title was especially appropriate since it is hoped that each person who read the 1973 Literary Magazine had his life changed for the better.
