- '■ - -I • ■ - ' f. Jg - ■ -w ------- • t S — V, The Big War KATHY PASCOE When a boy in our neighborhood formed the appropriately named club called the Rat Finks, calm life was shattered. Armed with waterguns, the small- fry of our block struck terror in the hearts of anyone walking alone in the 800 block. The club, which unfortunately had two of my sisters as loyal members, had the simple initiation rites of buying a large plastic ring with a rat on it. Their motto Kill Old Ladies must have included me. I was innocently watering the lawn one day when I looked up into the eyes of the leader. Giving him a smile that dripped with honey, I turned to retreat into the house, when I was faced with two other members. I was surrounded likewise on all sides. They attacked. Pinning me to the ground, they each had their turn at squirting me with their stupid water pistols. That wasn't too bad. But have you ever had 20 rubbeibands from practiced hands hit you at once? No? Try it. It hurts! By some miracle I survived that attack, but never again will I venture out of the house without my squirtgun and rubberband. --To make Kathy's memory more lasting, we chose one of her own essays. Even though this was a rebuilding year for the squad and coach, the locomotives won over the Glendive Red Devils and the Hardin Bulldogs. At the close of the season, Kevin Flagler was chosen all-conference quarterback on the first team and Pat Kukes was chosen all-conference linebacker on the second team. These two boys played tor Mr. Catcher on the Toots Championship team in 1966. Other outstanding players on the squad were: Jeff Knaub, back; Ed Robertus, lineback; Dave Bayeit, running back; Mike Hegel, quarterback; Bryon Spoon, tight end; Gerry Ready, split end; Nathan Sahl, running back; Ray Southworth, linebacker; and Duane Steinmetz, tackle. With such outstanding players coming back next season, the coach feels that the locomotives are capable of being contenders in the Central A Divison. TRADES AND After 17 years as an instructor of Trades and Industries in the Laurel High School, Mr. Collins has given notice that he will retire at the close of this school year. He will be missed by members of the student body, especially in the field of auto mechanics. An indication of the fine job he has done in this field is shown by the fact quite a number of his former students are now employed in the field of auto mechanics. May your years of retirement be many and enjoyable. T. G I. 's love-in! Gotcha! !!
