Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1969 volume:

IN MEMORIUM Mary Lou Taylor transferred from Fromberg at the beginning of her senior year. Mary Lou was active in track, pep club, and FHA as an unde rcl assm an. Catherine VanNice had a warm glowing personality which will always be remembered at LSH. Cathy was active in the MYF and was a wrestling cheerleader. Take Care Of Them, Lord By Janetta Smith The weekend was young, And so were they. O Lord, why did you take them away? They had so much to live for They had so much to give. O Lord, why didn't you let them live? One was a sophomore, age sixteen. She was a cheerleader For the wrestling team. Active in school, church and around Now she sleeps peacefully under the ground. Leaving behind her only a memory. Take care of her, Lord, For we all loved Cathy tenderly. The other was a senior, a transfer Who came to our school At the beginning of this year. She loved fun, And friends showed her our town. Now she too sleeps Peacefully under the ground. She too is up in heaven, There with you. Take care of her, Lord, For we all loved her--Mary Lou. Sadness comes on days like these, And we never understand the tragedies. All we have to hold are the memories. Dear Lord, give us the strength To go on—we pray, And may we all meet in Heaven With you some day. E, Cummings 1894-1962 Editors’ Note Mary Jo Neitz, Co-Editor What does the poem stand for? We can't tell you, at least line for line. Perhaps even Mr. Cummings couldn't have explained the entire poem to you. Then why did we include it? Because it represents life, itself. Parts of each can be studied, explained, comprehended and parts of each remain garbled, mysterious, undefined. This annual is about life, too-about yours and mine and everyone else's. It belongs to everyone, but especially to you. For it is your interpretation of these events that makes them special. We, the co-editors and annual staff, hope we've succeeded in collecting and arranging the outstanding memories of the past so that you can go back in time and relive a most memorable year! Homecoming was kicked off with the annual Snake Dance and Bonfire, featuring the flaming LSH. Three class floats and a special entry from the T I club highlighted the Friday afternoon parade, with the sophomores' float placing first in competition. • The queen, her court and their parents were honored at the half-time of the Laurel-Hardin game in which Laurel emerged the victor. The Loco's opened the season well with a win over Fergus and after several rough games came back to win the Homecoming match topping Hardin by a score of 33-7. The Central game provided some of the best football of the entire season, but a missed extra point prevented Laurel from scoring the upset of the year. The senior dominated team delivered an undefeated season to achieve the 1 position at State among the biggest schools in Montana They gained the last Big 32 title by overcoming Missoula Hellgate, Butte Central, and Kalispel in the State Tourney at Bozeman. Enthusiasm was displayed by record breaking crowds and spirited pep assemblies. The annual Central game packed the Laurel gym to over-flowing and over 500 people were turned away from the State Tournament Friday and Saturday night games.
