Senion Claaa ‘Hi tony It was a bright day back in 54 when 88 wide-eyed Freshmen gathered at the portals of Laurel High School for the first time. They were quickly taken under the mothering wing of Miss Marguerite Roscoe to whom had fallen the task of guiding us through our first year as an organized class. With Po Murry elected as our President, John Cromwell as Vice-President, Orene Price as Secretary-Treasurer, Barbara Williams and Ron Stoltz as S.A.C. Representatives and Lorrene Horner serving as Activity Chairman. We soon got into the swing of high school life and made ourselves recognized when we started the annual Valentine Party, and had several sales. As upper-lower classmen we returned as sophomores the next year determined to make an impression. With diplomatic Georgie Andrews at our head who was ably supported by Bill Armstrong as Vice-President, Pat Giblin serving as Secretary-Treasurer, being represented by Gwen Rockvam and Bob Ruff as S.A.C. with Dick Schardt serving as Activity Chairman we set our goals at the top and under the supervision of Carl Kimball, our new Class Sponsor, we sponsored many activities and did our share in school participation. We held many after game dances and bake sales and then finished our projects for the year with a superb Spring Fever Dance. We now let down a bit to rest for our mighty junior year. Here we were past the halfway mark and beginning our junior year. We lost no time and chose our slate of officers for one of the most exciting year of high school: Lorrene Horner Class Proxy, Po Murry Vice-President, Richard Fujio Treasurer, John Cromwell served as Secretary, Georgie Andrews and Barbara Williams representatives to S.A.C. and Wesley Watkins Activity Chairman. Under the excellent supervision of our new Class Sponsors, Miss Pat Morgan, Mr. Jack Neitz, and Mr. Ray Kramer, we began working toward our Prom. We sold concessions at every athletic event and held a Halloween Dance. All our hard work was profited on May fifth when the class of 57 produced one of the finest Prom's and Banquet's ever held at Laurel. Our theme was Pink Pearls and Wine. Doug Wold was toastmaster and at the Prom, Mary Ellen Albertus was crowned queen. We ordered our class rings from Jostens. Seven Sisters was the name of our class play ably directed by Miss Jeanne Gunderson. During this year John Cromwell was elected Annual Editor and Barbara Williams and Doug Wold were chosen as Laurel Leaves Editors. During the summer, Georgie Andrews, Lorrene Horner and Barbara Williams represented Laurel at Girls State and Bill Armstrong, John Cromwell, and Bob Ruff went to Boys State. When our final year hove into view, our senior class elected an all-male governing slate with Richard Fujio as President, Bill Armstrong Vice-President, Ray Stroh Secretary, John Cromwell and Po Murry S.A.C. Representatives. From our original 88 members 72 remained to finish their high school career. We soon held the First Annual Senior Ball at which Lorrene Horner and Dick Schardt were crowned King and Queen. We produced the hilarious 'Curious Savage' for our class play under the direction of Miss Janice Welch. It was with deep regrets that the class of 57 left their final impressions in the history of L.H.S. as we graduated on May 28, 1957. 5
