Seatot The fall of 1951 found the present class of 1955 hopefully entering the doors of Laurel High School for the first time. Under the supervision of MISS ROSE SAMPSON, class sponsor, and the leadership of DUANE TIN-NES, president; SHIRLEY FRANK, vice-president; LARRY HORNING, secretary; RONALD MARKOVICH, treasurer; and SAC representatives, ED LEUTHOLD and PAT PRICE; the class got a good start in school participation. ALVINA HUSCHKA and DEAN FRANK received the Laurel Leaves crowns, with the freshman class selling the most subscriptions to the Laurel Leaves. During their sophomore year the class decided to buckle down and really show everyone that they were important too. MISS HELEN NELSON, new class sponsor, helped the class in their effort to make money by having sales and by sponsoring a Valentine's dance. ARLENE JOHNSON, sophomore class nominee, represented Laurel in the kid's day sweetheart contest. Class officers for the year were: ED LEUTHOLD, president; JOHN STRECKER, vice-president; DAVID GROLL, secretary; PHYLLIS NOEL, treasurer; and AMY ALLWIN and ELMER BROWN, SAC representatives. Finding themselves faced with the task of putting on the prom and banquet in honor of the seniors, the juniors immediately set about selling at all the football and basketball games. Their money-making schemes proved successful as their prom and banquet, carried through with a spring garden theme, was an outstanding affair. RITA FUJIO was elected by the class and the school to be Miss Laurel in the kid's day sweetheart contest. Follow the Dream was successfully staged as the junior class play under the direction of MISS JEANNE GUNDERSON. Our class again sold the most subscriptions to the Laurel Leaves and RONNIE MARKOVICH and RITA FUJIO were crowned king and queen. MARJORIE REITER and VIRGINIA COMER were elected to go to Girls' State and ED LEUTHOLD, LANCE VADNAIS, and JOHN HERINK attended Boys' State. Class officers were ED LEUTHOLD, president; DUANE TINNES, vice-president; VIRGINIA GOMER, secretary; JIM KAISERMAN, treasurer; and BOB LANE and LANCE VADNAIS, SAC representatives. MISS HELEN NELSON and MISS PAT MORGAN were co-advisors of the class. At the start of their last year, the seniors set about on the job of getting out their annual. DAVID GROLL edited the yearbook and MLSS HELEN KAMERZELL was the advisor. The senior class play, Jenny Kissed Me, directed by MISS JEANNE GUNDERSON, was termed a huge success. VICKY BRADFORD and ED LEUTHOLD edited the Laurel Leaves to an All-State rating. Class members were very proud when CLAYTON HAGEN received his appointment to West Point. MR. WEST announced the honor students: VIRGINIA GOMER, Valedictorian; JUDY WOODWARD, Salutator-ian; JOHN HERINK, third; and ED LEUTHOLD, fourth. Baccalaureate services were held May 22. Class officers for the year were ED LEUTHOLD, president; DUANE TINNES, vice-president; VIRGINIA GOMER, secretary; DAVID GROLL, treasurer; and JOHN HERINK and AMY ALLWIN SAC representatives. Class sponsor was MRS. MARGARET FRETTE. On May 26, seventy-six eager, and yet sad, seniors marched into the gym to receive their diplomas. Four years of struggling, and four years of joy were over. Only God knows what Fate has in store for the class of 1955. CLASS MOTTO: CLASS COLORS: CLASS FLOWER: Seek and Ye Shall Find. Orchid and Pearl Orchid 21 Herink reads history.
