The life of our school Is just like a season— It begins in the fall, There's really no reason. This was the first And still it does stand— How long will it be On the face of this land?

Dedication Education on the high school level has progressed far in 46 years. In 1908 the first high school was built in Laurel. Since then we have newer and better buildings. The buildings would be empty shells and of no use, except for teachers. To all teachers, but especially to those teachers who have taught and made for the Laurel High School a good reputation in institutions of higher learning we gratefully dedicate this, the 54 LAURELS, for all laurels belong to them. Metitoriam David Baldwin, freshman, was fatally injured in a bicycle-car accident, March 29, 1954. He was active in scouting and intramural sports. The class of '54 extends its deepest sympathy to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Willard Baldwin, and sister Virginia, '53. A shining example of character and goodness was expressed in Ollie Mae Andrews, our friend and classmate who passed away Sunday, May 23, 1954, of a cerebral hemorrhage. Her very life was a challenge to all of us who knew her. A vivid imagination, a zest for life, and a sincere interest in her friends and associates shine above all her other qualities. Ollie loved many things: her family, her church, her friends, and her school. She had talent in many fields and brought these out through her participation in varied activities. She was clever at writing, played the piano, and had a sweet soprano voice. Ollie enjoyed the out-of-doors and loved the rims and the river where she and her friends spent so much time. She was very fond of sports and one of her most-prized possessions was a letter she worked hard to earn for GAA. Ollie's life was a full and happy one. She was a credit to her family, her class, and her school. We will always remember Ollie for what she was—a happy, unselfish, cooperative person who made life easier and more pleasant for us all. Ollie's school activities included the presidency of the sophomore class, an active membership in pep club, GAA, and mixed chorus. She had been chosen to be the editor of the Laurels in her senior year. She recently ended a term of the office of Love in the Order of Rainbow for Girls and was vice president of the Girl Scout troop of which she is an eight-year member.
