Fdward W1-.ggrhctf Darlene Klass Donald Ney ms and Burley Roberts unsuspectmgly cltmbcd the eleven steps to the kindergarten room where they were cudelcd by a smtlxnp but fearful Mtss Phyllis Norman The monotony of the year was broken by the arrtyal of Gene Smith Brown Louise Halverson Donald Clme and Lester Wehrman left leaung room for Glortenne johnson Edgar Moore Mary I ou Burnett and Donald Howard to jom the brood When they moved tnto the second and third grade room they were met by Miss Ruth West Patrtcla Ankrum Lola Brown Mary Lou Halley and Helen Fatrcloth jomed the ranks Dxckle Sharer and Jac tlyrn Starns did not yotn them In thtrd grade Robe rt Carey Marvtn Moore Janet Schmtdt enrolled and Bonnte Brown returned after attednlng school at Melbourne Harold A rnaman and Dorts Mae VandeKamp dld not return They were headed through fourth grade by Hazel Wtnters The new members were Marleen Meyers Irene Freese john Roberts and Wayne Bart lett Patrlcla Ankrum Donald Howard Edgar Moore Robert Carey and Glorlenne johnson were absent from the roll That was the year that some of the most prominent members got bored and played hooky The spanktngs next day relieved the monotony but tn-lured their constitutions The fifth grade teacher was Anges Bleeker They noticed a decrease in the enrollment as Bonme Brown Mary Lou Burnett Helen jane Falrcloth Eugene Farr Delmar Paul and Donald Ney Ins dropped from the roll Dean Wllson was the only new member In the sixth grade Kenneth Maulsby and Darrell De Wttt yomed the class Gene Smith and Dean Wtlson left them The girls begtnnmg to show womanly tratts began sneaktng hpsttck to school bemg very careful to wash off all traces before they returned home Bernard Klauenbe rg added constderable male interest to the class when he jotned tn sew enth grade The vacancy left by Irene Freese was filled by joy Martm. ' I Their enrollment remamed the same ln the eighth as they lost joy Martin and john Roberts and gained Floyd Campbell and Emory Wunn The courageous little troop was guided through junior high by Miss jansonious Miss Ratllff Miss Dethmers Mrs Henry and Mrs Irma Paul The nxnth grade found them elevated to the sacred portals of the fresh man assembly the ultimate for whrch they had ardently yearned for years Through the1r many capers they caused many a teacher s head to ache Burley Roberts failed to Jom them and Delores johnson was the only new member of the class After washxng the steps wlth tooth brushes and pushing omons across the gyrn floor they became full fledged members of the Hlgh School They were very glad to be consrdered members of the tnstltutzon but concealed thls fact from their upper classmen In their tenth year Maxme Groff and Kathleen Johnston jomed them Wayne Bartlett and Darlene Klass dropped from the roll The helghth of their activities in their Junior year was the junior Senior Banquet which they sponsored for the seniors at Younkers Tea Room in Des Momes April 19 Emory Wunn Darrell De Witt Manne Groff left the class Gene Smith jomed them for a short time and then moved to Des Momes On September l 1947 the class of 48 came back to school acutely Q ware that they were the seniors, a group not to be tampered with by the rest the fellow clas smen The only new member was Eunice Routh S M.. We were active ln sports and muslc. Those out for basketball are jack Toedt, Fritz Fe rguson. james Shlvely, and Rrchard Sletmann. We also produced a one act paly wxth the program that was gwen before the contest. Green Mountain came to the local floor to take a 47 to 17 defeat. Dell Toedt racked up 15 counters. We went back to Gilman a very cold team and collect but 2 points in the first half.
