LATIN vs. NORTH SHORE COUNTRY DAY The first real game of the schedule was with North Shore Country Day School at their field. The Latin team was green and therefore did not play a good game. North Shore scored a touchdown in the second quarter, and it looked as if Latin were going to be defeated. However, in the last quarter Hodgson threw a pass to Nellis. who made a beautiful catch. but was tackled almost immediately afterward. The team began to wake up. On the next play a pass was called for, and Hodgson threw one fifty-seven yards to Hogue, who caught it and stepped over the line. The kick for the extra point went wide, and a few minutes later the game ended. The score was Latin 6, North Shore 6. LATIN vs. PULLMAN The second game of the season was with Pullman Tech. lt was played in Lincoln Park and was a hard fought battle. Latin had the ball in her Opponents' territory most of the time, but lacked the punch to put it over the line. At last, after considerable line plunging, the ball was down on Pullman's five-yard line. But alas, too late. The whistle blew for the half. The second half was a repetition of the first except that in the last fewiminutes of the last quarter, Fortune snatched a Pullman pass out of the air, and shaking off two tacklers, ran eighty yards for a touchdown. The kick again failed to go over. The final score was 6 to 0 in favor of Latin. The Northwestern Blilitary and Naval Academy game was the most disastrous for Latin. In the first place the day was extremely warm, and the players were more or less listless. Latin held the heavy Northwestern team to one touchdown in the first half and this they received on a blocked kick. In the second half, however, Latin was tired out, and Northwesterns 210-pound fullback crashed through Latinls frail line at will. The final score was 26 to 0. LATIN vs. PARKER On November ll, Latin played the first game in ten years with its old rival. Francis Parker. A number of the alumni turned out for the occasion, and this writer hopes that they were well pleased, because Latin walked away with the game. The score was -ll to 0. In the first quarter two touchdowns were made. and the same number were scored in the second. The last half, however, was cut short because of darkness, so Latin was only able to chalk up-two more in that half. The passing of Hodgson and the line plunging of Fortune were the outstanding points of the game. In this game we received our first casualty. Hodgson, our star passer, suffered a com- pound fracture of the collar bone. LATIN vs. NIILXVAUKEE COUNTRY DAY The last game of the season was very disastrous for Latin. lVithout Hodgson the fine passing attack which Latin had used so successfully was gone. Our opponents. Illilwaukee Country Day School, had a very strong and heavy team, and they walked over us most of the time. Uihlein, their star player, a fellow six feet six inches tall and weighing over two hundred pounds, ran around end and off tackle at will. Although Latin fought hard, they could do nothing against this powerful team. Casey, though. saved his team from a whitewash by snagging a llilwaukee pass and running it back to the five-yard line. Fortune then plunged it over on four tries. Directly afterwards the game was called on account of rain. The final score was Bflilwaukee 37, Latin 6. All in all, Latin had a pretty successful season, winning two games, tying one, and losing two. And this writer only hopes that next year more fellows will report for practice and in this way help Latin to have a successful season. THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS BURNS, Captain. was back at quarter this year, and, although he didn't carry the ball much, he helped the team by running back punts and by his heady, dependable direction of the team. He leaves this year. FORTUNE, our fullback, was, as the name imples, all there. Pete ran the ball well, and, whenever he tackled a man, that person His kicking, also. helped us out of many pinches. next year, and I wish him Cas everyone doesl a very successful season. Everyone knows how good a game Hardy half, so I can only say that Latin is very sorry to lose him this year.
