■' ■3 1833 03585 8569 Go 97 7. 202 InSLsl 1 9 76 I. a tin ©an This year a different approach was taken to produce a new style of yearbook. The purpose of this year ' s edition is two fold. The first is to record the daily classes and organizations. The second is to tell the story, those things which made this year different from any othcr-the laughing, the learning; the victories, the defeats; the rejoicing, and the crying; all of which are significant. This approach is a revolutionary idea in yearbook produc- tion and has not been tried before in high school journalism. This year ' s yearbook will help to tell the story of the 1975-76 academic year, which the walls have recorded for an eternity but are unable to repeat. ' f tf§ t A School J-nd anapoUs Vol. XVIU Since Latin School is a place where a young man can come and explore a priestly vocation it is very important for him to understand his religion. For this reason the Religious Department is constantly changing with the many developments of the Church regarding religious education. In the Freshman year the student is introduced to the Bible in Biblical Literature by the capable Fr. Cleary. The Sophomores learn about some recent and past Church happenings from Rev. Mis- ter Hilderbrand in Church History. In the Junior and Senior year these two classes combine to form a large group and explore several areas of religion such as: The Priesthood Today, Religion and the Future of Man, Biblical Interpretation, and Western Religions. Along with attempting to understand people, the Latin School also helps students to understand the world in which we live. The Science Department is the main outlet in this learning process. Mr. Ron Huck instructs students in General and Senior Biolo- gy, while Mr. Dick Mueller shares his knowledge of Earth Science and Chemistry. CO O rfi 1 CL O Ui CL O s co uu CO CO LU Q =) CO o o co The purpose of any Social Studies class is to help the stu- dent understand what goes on around him. This task is accom- plished by the well informed Mr. Joseph Pollman and Rev. Mr. Hilderbrand. In the Freshman and Sophomore years the students are introduced to foreign living conditions in World Cultures. The Junior year proves to be interesting as he can learn about the early American habitat in American History. The Senior year proves to be most interesting as he can choose from seven areas of studies. The most interesting of the seven are Government, Sociology, and Economics. The thing about Economics is that the word money makes people listen. Also offered are Social Problems, Political Science, Current History and American Per- sonalities. At the Latin School the problem of solving perplexity is done by the small, but adequate staff of Fr. Mader and Mr. Mueller. During the Freshman and Sophomore years, math is a re- quired course with Algebra in the first year and Geometry in the second. During the junior and senior years the more inquisi- tive student may try his luck at Advanced Algebra, Analysis, and Calculus. Mr. Mueller covers the freshman Algebra class while Fr. Mader, with his years of experience fully controls the other four classes. Most students find the classes enjoyable even if they are not fond of Mathematics. The atmosphere is light but serious. Students are encouraged to have fun but take their work seri- ously. 1 rn O Co The Language Department at Latin School offers com- plete programs in both Latin and French. Two years of a language are required for graduation. Fr. Schiedler teaches all four years of the French pro- gram, with Fr. Sims teaching all four years of Latin. The programs in each language are multi-media em- ploying tape recordings and filmstrips as well as the tradi- tional textbooks. I v: « ;;«£ While not everyone has natural artistic ability, what talent they do have is given a chance to develop in Latin School art classes. The Art Department, headed by Miss Haskett, offers each student the op- portunity to use art as a creative outlet of talent. While Freshmen are required to study Art Appreciation, many students follow this study of art by participating in the Art Lab courses. With facilities in- cluding a potterywheel and a kiln, any type of artistic endeavor is possible through the Art Department. Not every student can be a Michelangelo but all are given the chance. O In today ' s world communication is very necessary for a person to grow and develop properly. The English Dept. at Latin School is willing to help a student develop his speak- ing and listening talents through broadening his understand- ing of the language. Through the combined talents of Mrs. Peirce and Mrs. Waggoner this task is accomplished through such courses as English 1,2, 3, 4, Speech, Drama, and Journalism. Mrs. Waggoner and Mrs. Peirce have established a solid program so that the students are able to acquire a complete view of man ' s communication with his fellows. Although his schedule is very busy Mr. Huck manages to get through three more classes. He teaches Health, Phys. Ed., and Drivers Ed. besides his Biology classes and coaching. Health, which is a required course for freshman, lets the student learn a little bit about everything. Phys. Ed. offers a variety of activ- ities by which the individual may build his physique. In Drivers Ed. the students learn the rules of the road along with how to drive a car properly. c: o UJ uu cl The Cougar Varsity Squad: (Front Row L to R) Tom Kenter, Donn Proctor, Dan Brandon, Roger Probst, Phil Carson, Tim Marshall, Kevin O ' Hara, Rick Gillman, (Back Row L to R) Mr. Huck, Rodney Brown, Mark Schonhoff, Chris Duncan, Chris Lang, John Mollaun, Chuck Teaney, Chris Scarpone, Mr. Henderson. By their dedication and hard work during the fund raising drive this yearbook became possible. Now that the money was in our hands, production became the only concern. With a small group of enthuiastic students a staff was formed to begin work on the ' 76 Latinean. Throughout the year the staff had one big problem-finding time to get to- gether to get something concrete accomplished but because of their loyalty to the school, the students, and to me, the book progressed along slowly. As editor I want to take this opportunity to thank those people who made this edition a reality-my staff and you the students of Latin School. Thanks for supporting me and giving me the opportunity to give a special gift to you-you as a person in your high school years immortalized by pictures. Thanks again. Tom Renter
