5?ssS5f5?s 4 LATINEAN 1964 Latin School of Indianapolis Indianapolis, Indiana The great seal of the Latin School of Indianapolis points up our spirit. The fish and trident are the symbols of the hardy manner of living of Indiana ' s early settlers, the French fleur-de-lis indi- cates leaving homeland for a new life; the star symbolizes the goal of the priest- hood for our students. LATINEAN 1964 P resents the spirit of LATIN SCHOOL OF INDIANAPOLIS looking ahead.. to the goal of the priesthood has been a major welding force in Latin School spirit. A picture of many facets of this spirit are in the pages that follow. contents FACULTY 7 SENIORS 13 UNDERCLASSMEN 2 5 ACTI VITI ES 47 SPORTS 55 Spirit is Soul and Mind The House of God and the halls of learning are sanctuaries where the mind . and spirit find their growth. The purpose of the Latin School is to further its students in both of these areas so that they be best prepared for the priesthood. Dedication After one year at Seymour High School, Father Head transferred to St. Meinrad Minor Seminary. Awarded a Basilan scholarship to Catholic University of America, he received his master ' s degree in phi- losophy and licentiate in theology there. Father was ordained in his own parish church, St. Ambrose, Seymour. He was assistant at Holy Trinity and instructor at Ladywood School before he helped Monsignor Brokhage organize the Latin School in 1955. Father Head ' s kindness and scholarship have won for him the admiration of the student body. The students are most grateful to him for his guidance and attention. The Latinean Staff proudly dedicates the 1964 yearbook to the Reverend Bernard Head. Archbishop Schulte Archbishop Schulte, the founder of Latin School, has been a constant friend and booster of the school. Before coming to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, Archbishop Schulte was the ordinary of Leavenworth, Kansas. Recently, he was appointed Assistant to the Papal Throne. Monsignor Brokhage , who celebrates his silver jubilee this year, was recently created a papal chamberlain. He has been an outstanding in- fluence on Latin School spirit. Acquiring scholarship is hard work. But study and work create a significant amount of Latin School spirit. FACULTY of hilarity by the faculty at the Halloween party results in a pause in the spirit of learning. The faculty at the Latin School is a young well -trained staff with a lot of experience. Besides their roles as teachers they provide guidance and friendship to each student. J sss VERY REVEREND JOSEPH D. BROKHAGE, M. A.,S. T. D.
