THE MMstCHING TROJANS The Lassifer Band became a powerhouse of musical talent under the direction of Mr. Watkins and Ms. Samuels. Strive to be the best became the motto of some members of the band because of this duo. The phrase, perfect practice makes perfect performance, was always present in every rehearsal and performance. It could be felt in every beat, every note. The power of these two phrases was evident through this year ' s band. As the mighty Trojan was powerful, so was the Lassiter Band. Whether they were in a competi- tion or practicing in the auxiliary lot, their pride and strength radiated through their music. Their belief in these phrases was evident in the intricate details in their shows. It was this belief in mere words that made the Lassiter Band superior in every way. The Drum Majors of the 1988 Trojan Band wanted to leave the band with some final thoughts. Christy Lambie hoped that the Lassiter Band will continue its proud tradition. I want to be able to come back and be proud I was a member. Mike McCabe wanted the band mem- bers to remember that you are never as good as you can be. Never set a limit on what you want to accom- plish. Through hard work and dedication you can realize your full potential. Jeremy Newkirk said that there are some things that are hard about being a member of the band, such as leading 300 different types of East Cobb teenagers and upholding the tradition of ex cellence. No one can understand what its like to be in the band unless you are, period. Donald Son saw band as a learning experience. It helped me adjust to high school. It ' s probably my best experience in high school, and through these experiences, I became a better per- son. Doug Papp received a very distinguished honor during the 1987-88 school year. He was selected as one of Georgia ' s representatives in the McDonald ' s Ail- American High School Band. As a member of this prestigious band, Doug marched in the Macy ' s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Doug ac- complished a goal that oth- ers only dream about. CLUBS • 245
