The team held several practice comptitions and participated in the Regional Science Olympics at Kenne- saw College. Rory Deering was the team ' s captain. The Science Team also hosted the science Olympic competi- tion. Science Club sponsor, Mrs. McGregor, opened many doors in the world of sci- ence for her students. Mrs. McGregor was the sponsor for the Science Club this year at Lassiter. This club provided many opportunities for students interested in science, and also activities for enriching the stu- dents ' knowledge of science. At the activities, guest speakers attended, and many laboratory investigations were tested. The club completed a Christmas project and went on a trip in the spring. FBIA FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) was sponsored by Ms. Thompson this year. As a business oriented club, improving skills in business and professional fields were the main goal achieved by the seventy-seven members. By having the same mutual interest in busi- ness and professional fields, competing against other schools at events such as the FBLA Competition was very easy for these future business leaders. Tom Dechman sponsored this year ' s Chess Team. The four teams were the largest in the state wWh five players in each. The members belonged to such organizations as the U.S. Chess Feder- ation, the Georgia Chess Federation, and the Georgia Scholastic League. Tournaments lasted anywhere from twelve to sixteen hours to several days; the winner often receiving a cash award. With the team ranked in the top four in the state of Georgia, the level of play by the best players was quite sophisticat- ed.
