This year ' s math teams consisted of thirty-seven talented people under the direction of Ms. Poss, a math teacher at Lassiter. The teams competed all over the South at places like Samford Univer- sity, Furman University, and Kennesaw College. The meets consisted of some of the top math students around the Southeast. Members of the Beta Club are hardworking, dedicated, and caring students who have a 3.5 GPA or above. As one of Lassiter ' s community-service organizations, the Beta Club donated canned goods to needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. A Beta Bonanza was held in December, and the winner, KimPritchard, wonaSlOO gift certificate to Macy ' s. Members also went to the Beta State Convention. This year ' s National Honor Society was co-sponsored by Mr. Dech- man and Ms. Vaal. The Honor Society operated the teleprompter in the cafeteria, sponsored a very successful Blood Drive, and bought electric pencil sharpeners for some teachers with money earned from a Halloween doughnut sale. The team held several practice comptitions and participated in the Regional Science Olympics at Kenne- saw College. Rory Deering was the team ' s captain. The Science Team also hosted the science Olympic competi- tion. Science Club sponsor, Mrs. McGregor, opened many doors in the world of sci- ence for her students. Mrs. McGregor was the sponsor for the Science Club this year at Lassiter. This club provided many opportunities for students interested in science, and also activities for enriching the stu- dents ' knowledge of science. At the activities, guest speakers attended, and many laboratory investigations were tested. The club completed a Christmas project and went on a trip in the spring.
