PARADISE GAME On Frlday n1ght September 19 the Lassen Varslty made lt two w1ns 1n a row by defeat1ng Parad1se 33 13 after beat1ng Qulncy 34 0 the week before At halft1me the score was t1ed 6 6 but Lassen f1nal1y got rollmg to break a 3rd quarter tie of 13 13 by getting three touchdowns 1n the final quarter For a wh1le rt looked bad for Lassen when Paradise opened up 1n the 3rd quarter w1th a touch down drlve to go ahead 13 6 but Lassen rallled to t1e the score and go on to w1n the game by a oood margm The bleachers were f1lled to capaclty Vtlhen the Varsity took the f1eld at the start of the game Lassen had the following ln the startmg l1neup Brent Johnson Frank Peterson, Sheldon Carman 11m Bronson Ronald Harrison Larry Ternll, Wlnchell and Rlchard V1al Lassen Quarterback Errol Langslet was hurt badly 1n the 3rd quarter when somebody stepped on h1s left leg, cuttlng a deep gash to the bone wh1ch requlred Z0 stitches Touchdowns scored for Lassen were by Pete H1cks Bob Abernathy Rlchard V1al, and Cliff Merck MODOL, GAME lassen Varslty lost to the Modoc Braves 18 7 on a very hot Saturday afternoon The loss stopped the Lassen Vars1ty s w1nn1ng streak at three games The only score for Lassen came in the fourth quarter on a long pass from Errol Langslet to Pete H1cks The pass play was good for about 61 yards Modoc led at the half 6 0 LASSEN UNDERMINES YREKA A m1ghty 1.assen team beat the strong Yreka Miners 7 6 on Fnday, October 10 Iassen won the game the hard way by makmg 1ts touchdown 1n the f1rst half and then holdlna Yreka off the goal l1ne untll the last few m1nutes of play The touchdown for Lassen was made on a run around r1ght end by Rlchard V1al Rlch also made the extra po1nt on a run around r1ght end Tackle Larry Bell got h1s nght knee hurt badly 1n the f1rst half and mlssed the rest of the game LASSEN DERAILS SPARKS RAILROADERS A determmed Lassen Varslty beat the Sparks Rallroaders 21 19 Fnday October 17 1n a hard fought battle Ioe Wlnchell made the frrst Lassen touchdown on a run around r1ght end Next Pete H1cks intercepted a pass and went 72 yards for the second touchdown Ioe also made the th1rd and final touchdown for Lassen on another run around r1ght end downs on a run Bob Abernathy caught a pass from Pete H1cks to pick up another po1nt after touchdown Joe Winchell also made a po1nt after touchdown None ot these touchdowns could have been made w1thout the blocklng of the 11ne HORNETS STING GRIZZLIES The Enterpnse Hornets beat the Lassen Varsity 13 0 to spo1l the Lassen Homecoming on Saturday October 25 The Enterprise team was much brgger than the Lassen team but Lassen played a good game, sa1d the Lassen coaches It was the last game for the followmg M1ke M1ller Larry Terrlll, Ronald Harnson 11m Bronson, Sheldon Carman Joe Wmchell Lloyd North Iohn Bachman Marshall Butner D1ck Trumbull, Lanny Mayfleld, Chff Merck and Dale R1ch1ns The Varsity ended the season w1th a 5 win 2 loss record to become the best varslty team at Lassen 1n at least 15 years ..uu!f Abernathy ls rn the clear . .
