Tl-IE SCHOOL TERM I The first day comes, We've started back, Back to the old, old grind again. Il IV To some it's fun, to some it's not, Now Spring is here The Autumn sun brings a longing thought And of the yearning thoughts Of fishing in a shady nook, or nutting in a sheltered dell, That turn to sailing kites, instead of new sums in Algebra Where Autumn leaves come tumbling down. And giggling girls are dreaming of lll Their newest date or movie hero. But winter comes V And then, how hard it is When Iune arrives To keep from dancing, flitting 'round We're out again, free from work, As snowflakes lightly hit the ground. The object of our dreams has come. This season, one of Christmas cheer, Too bad, too bad that school is out, Makes books and tests too much to bear. There's nothing new to do or say. A BEAUTIFUL SPOT 'Twas a beautiful spot upon the hill Where beautiful trees grew at God's own will, Where animals of each size and shape Had made their homes-until of late. They loved to run beneath these trees And each day frolic in the breeze. But there came a day when this wonderful spot Was black with smoke, and the air grew hot. The trees were burning to the ground Homeless animals found new stomping grounds, Where they could run again beneath the trees And each day frolic in the breeze. That beautiful spot upon the hill ls now charred and black-a terrible sight! Where beautiful trees grew at God's own will 'Twill take years and years to set it right! Those stately trees could still be there If some careless person had just played fair And put those campfire coals out Instead of leaving them in doubt. -Ada Burr. Q 59 sb Winifred Whitmire

He hummed and whistled merrily as he untied his shoes, but he would not have been so cheerful had he but seen that a dark form lay in a secluded corner where the rays from the light could not penetrate. It was a low huddled figure which looked as if it were crouched and ready for a leap! But Iohn Samuel Iames Iones did not see all this and unsuspectingly he switched off the light! A ray of light streamed through the open window and by that ray of light there could be seen a shadow slowly moving towards the bed in which lay Iohn Samuel Iames Iones! Suddenly, a scream pierced the night! Quickly followed by a low, raspy, gurgling sound! Then, all was silent again. -Felix Erro. 4458:
