TO THE PEOPLE OF THE LASSEN COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT The new college facility is in operation and we have just completed our first semester with all students attending the new campus. For this splendid facility the Students of Lassen College are deeply appreciative and wish to dedicate the 1971-1972 Yearbook to the People Of The Las- sen Community College District. In researching out background information on our new campus we have ferreted out some interesting tidbits. The drive for a new campus on this particular site began in the very early sixties. fMost of the present student body was in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grades.J Committees, official and unofficial, were organized to in- vestigate and to promote a new campus. The first official committee was appointed on Jan. 9, 1962, by the Board of Trustees, and was given the task of evaluation of the college facility. Approximately one month later the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce formed a committee to investigate possible sites for a possible new college campus. Donations were received from various sources to promote this end. It was out of efforts of this committee that our present campus was discovered. On June 5, 1962 the County School Board organized a com- mittee to study school district reorganization. This committee worked very closely with the unofficial site committee, giving further impetus in the drive for a new college. In March of 1964 the hope s of a new campus was tempo- rarily sidetracked when the Board of Trustees deactivated the original committee until the High School building problems could be solved. After much mulling around of facts and ideas the Board of Trustees, on August 2, 1966, reactivated the original committee and set it to work on possible college sites. This committee in- vestigated 14 possible c ol 1 ege building sites. Out of this final recommendation came the decision to separate the college and high school district and build a new campus. Listed below are names of people who contributed actively in the very early stages of the new campus development. As in most re- search, we are sure there are people whose names deserve to be listed but somehow did not get uncovered. Please forgive us.
