Winslow Municipal Building, the town's newest completed building-a spot to which citizens point with pride. Located on Maple Street, overlooking the Com- munity Athletic l icld, Winslow occupies a central position, geographically and socially. The building and landscaping are especially beautiful in spring and fall, when the flame bushes, tulips and forsythia contrast with the dark pine and ivy. llere nearly all important activities are held. Here the Vesper services are heard on cold January nights, when the Seniors plod through the snow, carefully holding up their gowns. Here, the Community Sings, with everyone trying to out- shout everyone else. Town meetings, orientation programs for the new citizens, bridge parties, fashion shows, dance symposiums, indoor sports-all are carried on under this roof. Walls are slid back, seats are put up, taken down, tables are arranged and a hundred activities can take place. Sometimes movies are shown, merchandising lilms, and abstract art films, pictures of the Olympics, travel movies to entice the citizens to see more of their country. The Ladies Aid moves in with hot dogs and bootees, colfee and copper candlesticks for the Bazaar. Miss Wethern and the Community Workshop Players rehearse, paint flats, and produce an evening's entertainment. We hang panels, strew leaves, dim the lights aml dreamily change the atmosphere for Proms, with the men in black tie and the gals in tulle and organdy, drifting out to dance on the terrace or sit under the old pine. Long after they have left, the citizens will remember Winslow as an integral part of Lasell. 'li' 7
