Facult Fourteen well-trained and experienced men and women guide us through the required and optional courses of study of secondary education. As tea- chers and friends they open doors of understanding and appreciation. They help us to find our places in the world about us and in our future. Vocational subjects taught by Mr. Harju, Mrs. McLean, Mr. Werle, Mr. Nelson, and Mrs. Wilson give us 8 skills by which we may earn our living: Mr. Werner, Mr. Wachter, Mr. Richel, Mr. Vecellio, and Mr. Olson guide us through the intricacies of mathe- matics and the sciences: and Mrs. Laundy, Mrs. Ellis, Mr. Wine-Gar, and Mr. MacDonald teach us the use of language, history, and democratic practice. i M hw! fer B A4-A 1. Their freshman year was uneventful except for a gala party early in the spring of 1953. It entailed a scavenger hunt which is still well-remembered by the participants. In their sophomore year, with Iudy Lee as pre- sident, the class sponsored a few dances and sold pencil pennants to raise funds for their Iunior Prom and banquet the coming year. In the fall of 1954 the class elected Ron Walker president and began building their treasury. They sold the left over pencil pennants, sponsored dances, and sold pop. Finally Prom time rolled around, and the hard working class began the decorating which carried out the Hawaiian Cruise theme. Three days after the memorable prom the Class of '56 entertained the Class of '55 at a banquet. In their last year, the most important year of all, the Class of '56 chose Gilbert Ziegler as president. As seniors they sponsored the annual Sadie Hawkins Dance in the fall and the Silver Bells Ball at Christmas time. They also edited the Purple and Gold News and the Hiawathan. For class colors they have chosen blue and silvery their class flower is lily of the valley: and their motto is Quo Vadis? The Class of '56 has had a number of out- standing athletes and musicians and several honor students. After Commencement the Seniors of '56 leave the halls of LaSalle, each going his separate way, cherishing the memories of four wonder- ful years of high school. Where is St. Ignace going? Our Mackinac Bridge presents a challenge to all of us. It will mean great changes in our lives, our town, and our whole Upper Pe- ninsula. The challenge of the future is al- ways with us, sometimes in visible form like the great span that will presently cross our straits, sometimes in the less tangible form of new ideas to explore, new ways of doing things, new friends to meet. Where we are going often depends on where we have been. The years we spend in school equip us with techniques for finding jobs, searching out answers, making new friends. Many of this year's graduating class will remain in St. Ignace, where with the back- ing of farsighted townspeople, they will meet the challenge of the future which will ma e St. Ignace bigger, better, more pros- perc .s, and more inviting. Other 1956 grad- uates will find their places away from this community. They, too, must front the future with the eguiy .zent of their experiences and education. Where are we going?. . .
