wet-n-wild ll 97 made out of spirit! 2 This year Las Cruces High was privi- leged to win 92 KFlM's Wet and Wild contest. All high schools in El Paso, Anthony, and Las Cruces were able to participate. The set rule was, that the school that brought in the most sunkist caps, cans, and bottles, would win the contest. The school that would win, would receive an all expense payed day at Wet and Wild in Anthony, New Mexi- co. At first, all the schools started off slow. No one was sure who was in the lead. Then, suddenly, the Radio Station started broadcasting that Las Cruces High was the leader of the pack. The race was on! As soon as they could, all the schools started collecting as many cans as possible. Las Cruces High was now only in first place by 200 cans. Something had to be done and fast! That Tuesday, 4 days before the contest would be over, Las Cruces High went into fast work. Cans started pouring in from all over, Las Cruces High had pulled through! Thank you 92FM, we all had a blast! We would really like to thank all those stu- dents who went through broom closets, and garages just to find a Sunkist can! 1 Aah! I'm gonna hit the water. 2 I'm bad! It should because it is the face of the one and only Chomper Whether in or out of focus he was always there to cheer on the team entertain the crowd and grrrrr! growl at the referees Chomper alias Mr T is also active in chorus Modernaires to be exact and was the manager of the girls soccer team. When asked how he got the job as the LCHS mascot Chomper replied that he waited in line behind three other people and when his turn came, he simply said l'm the one you want. They decided that he looked like a dawg of his word and gave him the job. Anyone who has seen him can vouch that he is great at what he does! Chomper also told us that he hopes he can remain here at LCHS next year because his job is a fun and exciting one. Good luck Chomper and we hope to see you next year!

the wil to win Spirit, Pride, Determination, Drive! What are these words synonymous with? LCHS!! Every afternoon, muscle-clad athletes pound each other into the ground, searching for glory. Cheerleaders spend their every waking moment chanting, stomping, clapping. What is it that pushes these people to do their best? lt is the untouchable particle that per- vades all of LCHS. What keeps ten or twelve people up til 12 midnight, night after night, working on the homecoming float or the junior- senior prom? Why do students spend so many hours after school working foi' Student Council, Yearbook, National Honor Society, and why do all the athletes strive to give a good showing of their school, day after day? This untouchable particle is com- posed of Spirit, Pride, Determination, Drive, and the will to win. lt is the desire to be the best we can possibly be and in doing this, make our school the best it can be. l Senior powder-puff cheerleaders show their stuff. 2 Cheerleaders, Leanne and Carol in their uni' forms. 3 Happy Jennifer? Jennifer Heath waits to per- form at the first pep assembly. 4 Our spirited football players sit together at the Pep assembly. 5 Look at those legs!
