As never before, education is essential to the realization of the new frontiers our exciting present has brought to us and will be essential to their exploration. The very forces which have been discovered have made possible achievements un- dreamed of in an earlier age. To keep pace, we at Las Cruces High School turn our attention not only toward greater scientific achievement but also toward greater social achievement consistent with goals accepted through mutual understanding and agreement. The common objectives in seeking to achieve the educational goal are to enable each student to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to the welfare of the Nationg to help each student acquire high spirtual, moral, ethical and esthetic valuesg to help him develop intellectually and to find pleasure in intellectual achievement, to help him to acquire good physical and mental health practicesg to help him recognize his responsibilities as a citizen and to assume them with dignity and honorg and to foster his understanding of peoples of the world and his respect for different cultures. We in the United States have a tradition of sharing. Our country is populated by a diversity of ethnic groups representing many races, many creeds, and many cultures of mankind. Thus in a sense each of these is part of usp we are part of each of them. Through education we seek to achieve a unity out of diverseness. We cannot forget our kinship with diverse peoples and our debt to diverse cultures. THE REALITIES OF THE PRESENT. Unquestionably the most significant of the realities of the present is a rapid awakening to the existence of new and limitless frontiers-new social frontiers encompassing the welfare of human kind rather than of national groupsp new geographic frontiers lifted from the bounds of the earth to all the universeg frontiers in thought consonant with the concept of mankind on the threshold of an era in which growth and achievement may overshadow all that has gone before.
