Senior Class Prophecy lt's the evening of May 24, l979, the moon is bright, the night is still, the time is ripe. l, Bill White, and my co-pilots, Harry .lennings and Dick Juillerat are walking across a lonely, desertmun- way, used for old-fashioned jet aircraft. ln the center stands our huge, powerful space ship, the Comet Dodger. We open the hatch, step in, walk over to our reclining take-off seats, Harry checks the gauges as l find flying conditions. A loud, booming voice over our magna-radio tells us we have ten seconds till take-off. We strap in. Three, two, one, fire ll As the pressure of our powerful take-off rockets pushes us into our seats, our world fades away. What's this strange picture coming into my mind? l wonder if Harry sees this. Why, it's our gradu- ation day twenty-five years ago. Look at the happy, tear-streaked faces, everyone 's there. l wonder what happened to them all-- New era of space travel opened as Everett Schuman, brilliant, young scientist and head of proposed Inter-Planetary Space Travel Agency, announces discovery of new atomic fuel. Shortly after he and mathematician Larry Plummer had calculated and solved the mysteries of space travel. Here 's a news- paper article which flashed through my mind. Alberta Martin, first woman President of the United States, and her hen-pecked husband Norman were busy making huge signs claiming land in the name ofthe United States. These signs will be given to all space explorers, the signs are made of peppermint candy so that if no new planets are dis- covered the explorers won't starve to death. Shortly after spotting the planet Aqua through a powerful telescope, Paul Branning, Dick Kessie, lvan Werstler, and Kenny .luillerat took off for this fisherman's paradise. The planet is completely covered with water and holds many huge bluegills, bass, etc. These brave men are the only human beings on the planet. On arriving at Mars, after a record breaking run between the Earth and Mars, Patsy Martz was greeted by Tim Shoemaker who arrived on Mars in i954 and didn't have time to return. Not too long ago Nancy Rager landed on Mars and has enjoyed life eating Mars Bars ever since. Her traveling companion, LaVonne Miller, has been taking the wrappers off for her. Maude Klingaman, renowned wild animal capturer, has just returned from the jungles of Venus with such ferocious animals as Zenophs, Elongeros, and Bolapillers. Maude's nickname is Bring 'Em Back Alive . Upon stopping at the Alpha-terminal on Moon for refueling, the passengers were greeted by the husky voice of public address system announcer Bernice Johnson. Among the passengers were Donna Wilkinson- Kelley and Doris Hill-Method who commented to space reporter Ilene Leutz, that they were just sight- seeing. Real ly not news to anyone, but it was announced that Bill Mathias outer-space bad-boy and casanova has stolen a rocket and eloped with his old favorite Gertrude Buntain. They were married on the Noon by Leoda Sellers, Justice of the Peace. Bud Weirick has been crowned champion of interplanetary Olympic games held this year at Mercury. He broad jumped l26' for a new record and is now recovering in the hospital. , lt looks like destiny still plays a big part in romance as Kenny Rubrake famous lover of outer-space girls married Marlene Bohnstedt, who has to club the boys away from her. They met at a dance on Saturn put on by interplanetary hostess Marilyn Wilson. l, also heard that Dorothy Stephens was still wandering around in space after not being able to draw a certain mathematicians mind away from his problems. Corrine Clark and Fannie Nullenax are now entertaining passengers on space ships with their up-to- date versions of opera and classical songs. Barbara Bender and Carolyn Boggs are headed toward a planet named Hawaii. Barbara on business, Carolyn just for the ride. And now as l am reviving, the picture fades away and l know that we will be the first humars that reach Pluto. 15
