As I was about to return home from an unsuccessful snipe hunt in the woods south of Larwill, I spied, -twinkling enticingly, in the near distance, a dim light. Naturally, I went to investigate and as I drew close I heard whirring-clacking noises. I crept up quietly and there I saw a little, wizened old man reading a news- paper by lantern-light. Beside him was a printing press. He sudden- ly looked up, peered right at me in the darkness and said, NI seen by the papers you were here so come out where I can see you.n Cf course, I was astonished until he explained that his was no ordinary printing pressg it was a magic machine that printed news of the future. On the front page of the May 19, items. Bulletin--A baby daughter has been born to wife of millionaire truck driver, Warren named Bonnie in honor of the Cox's close is noted for her discovery of a treatment ing to be a nurse. Another heading caught 1990 issue, I read these the former Anna Deeter-- Cox. General Gale W. North, of the U.S. Marines will crown her with the royal tin can at the coronation ceremony. It is hinted that General North has more than a casual interest in the Queen.N Then on the business page I read, nShotgun Firm Announces Promotion of Secretary.n Max Myers, president of the Acme Shotgun, Inc., manufacturers silverplated shotguns for formal weddings, announces the promotion of Nancy Hyndman to First Lap Secretary to the Pres. It is nice to know that she is getting proper training in school. From another magical paper, hot off the press, I read from the head- lines, nSchuman Nominates Krudling for President.n Paul Schuman Republican National Chairman, nominated Lucifer James Krudling for President at the convention tonight. On the society page, a small item caught my eye. Pianist and Com- poser, Garland Lee Smith, to give concert in Kessie Hall in Larwill soon. Kessie Hall has been donated by Carl Kessie, millionaire Con- tractor in Limestone. Quickly I turned to the sports page to see how the Professional boys were doing. In large print at the top of the page, Ngglfrich Breaks All Time Scoring Recordin In the game last night against the Clobe Blotters, Gail Helfrich went on a scoring spree for the Jets to set a new scoring record of 77 points. The other team was unable to a- venge themselves or heold the charging guard, as he hit basket after basket. In large bold faced type across the top of the second page I read QTpm Michael Discpvers thegNew.G-Bomb.H Very little is known about the great discovery made by the prominent scientist. The work was done under secret orders, and Mr. Michael has been working on allied experiments for 15 years. igfa-Q, 5 .JN NJ F ' nv Q .vp- 5-F J 4,'e .nr il Ihr ' w I' Also on this page, I found that Tom Terman had suffered a broken leg when his car overturned in the last lap of the 500 mile race on Dec- oration Day in Indianapolis. Terman's car was in the lead but durrg the last lap of the race the car slipped on a banana skin that some- body had thrown on the track, causing Tom to spill. The machine went to work again and soon a new paper was lying at my feet. I read the headline, HGraham Goes Broke as Poultry Market Di- ves.n Millionaire Graham has filed in Bankruptcy Court because of a sudden and disasterous drop in the market. I knew that chickens and Bill would tangle sooner or later. Bill has been removed to the New Watters Sanatorium because of the state of his mind. He will be un- der the private care of Supervisor Norma Watters. Also, I read that Elizabeth Sockendorfer has been chosen Mrs. Ameri- ca of 1993. nThe former Elizabeth Gale is the mother of 12 children ranging in age from 18 years to 4 months. She married Joseph Socken- dorfer right after her graduation from high school. Her husband is a prominent oil man of Dallas, Texas. In small print, at the bottom of the page, I read, nMiss Patrica A. Kile opens new Beauty Salon. Miss Kile will give, to her first ten customers, a free up-lift or down-sweep, whichever is desired by the customer. Cn the next ten the price will be doubled to make up for the first ten. You never could put anything over on Pat, I thought. It seems that everybody is getting into the papers, for here is an- other item about some people that I used to know. It was announced at a party held for Ford Executives at the Reiff home last night. I can't find anything else in the newspaper that looks interesting, so I'd better head for home. I'll have to keep this to myself, for WHO WOULD BELIEVE IT ANYWAY? Blau Galen fri ' WWW The Class of'l95l have chosen the colors of HScarlet and Grayn as the Class Colors. Grey like the grey of our caps and gowns and of the clouds, which for ay days cover the earth, as education should. Then scarlet, which is a bright red, meaning brilliance, comes back to ed- ucation by means of becoming brighter and improving our minds as well as our souls. With better education we will become better and more successful citi- zens of this community and country. C527 . ES Z 'lb-'Os 'f av- . , ,A 1 n JL' ' 4 ' 'lv 4 ' -,Q 4 .1 1 . if ' ,-4 -' sw.-'P an-M. We, the Senior Class of l95l, present you with this Sceptre which stands for friendship, high scholarship,h1gh ideals and good sports- manship. You have shown during your first three years of high school that you are capable of upholding these high standards of character. We as- sume that you will continue your never-tiring efforts to maintain and extend these standards of high character throughout the school and community during your Senior year of high school. We hope that we have set a good example during our Senior year---for you to follow. As representative of the Senior Class of '51, I now take great plea- sure in presenting to you this Sceptre.. I now remove the Scarlet 5 Gray of the Senior Class to make room for the Red and White of the Junior Class. On behalf of the Junior Class, I accept this sceptre with the pro- mise that we shall honor and treasure it as you have done. During our three first years of high school, we have been preparing our- selves for the responsibilities our senior year will bring to us. We compliment you on the success you have had, and the fine example you have set for us in scholarship, sports, and other activities in which you have participated. We will miss you during the coming year, but send with you our best wishes for happiness and success in the future. Again, I thank you. CKGLZSCS mafia gg of the graduating class of l95l,.chose for our motto, Upward and ward. We will all go out from the school, with our own ambitions and aims, some of us to succeed and some to fail. A main goal is to live up to the motto we have chosen, through whatever work we try. Qpward means we plan to build, plan and strive in the world until we have attained our individual goal, whatever it may be. Onward is for going on after we have gained our present goal, then setting others to strive for. Upward and Onward should mean to all of us, not just this graduating class of 1951 or l97l,.but to all of the people who are striving for goals, whether large or small, important or trivial, the urge attain goals and after we have reached them to move onward to preserve them T'-my? Some of us may enter college and further our formal education, others of us shall go direct ly into business, but no matter what we do, we shall not forget larwill High School. We can never forget our teachers, friends and classmates with whom we have spent the foray ative years of our brief lives. We shall not only remember the many happy hours we have spent at parties, games and the like--but we shall also remember the more trying times when all did not go well. It ,was then that the teachers showed us that they were true friends by giving us thoughtful attention. It was then that our friends stayed with'us and helped us, and we are truly grateful for those experiences. When school starts next September we shall not be there. There will probably be many times when we shall long to go back to our classes, and get away from the pressures of adult life. Although we would not admit it, school has been ilgavin of escapeah Whenlweldid niomea th w o in the st we co a wa s sa , we m o scggil kiggn Now wgaare past that andywe will have to face the gis- turblng issues of life more squarely. We know that we would not have been able to meet these problems of life squarely without the help of our teachers and parents. We should like, at this time to publicly acknowledge all the assistance you have given us, and to thank you from the depths of our hearts. Safufaforian Parents, faculty, friends, we the Senior Class of 1951, wish to extend a most cordial welcome. We are glad that you, who have, by your guid- ance and inspiration helped us reach our goal, are able to be with us as we enact our closing Senior Activities. When the school bell summons nest year we will not answer, for we now must go forth into the world and become good citizens by using the ideals and ideas that you have impressed upon our minds. We feel that we are now capable of shouldering l1fe's re- sponsibilities and will rely upon the wholesome training we have re- ceived in our twelve years of school. Upon finishing school, some will seek higher education, others will enter the services of our country, or take up work in various other fields. Whatever our job may be, we will hold in memory the fine associations and good background we received in our school career. We are grateful to you, friends, for supporting our class and making possible our trip to Washington, D. C., and to the teachers who have inspired us to take such an educational trip. This is one of the high spots in our school life--one that we will remember always. Cydfiff ower DALXZM K M We, the class of '51, have chosen the Red Rose as the class flower. It is a symbol of gragrance, loveliness and beauty. The Red Rose is grown in mild climates, like those of southern France and the Pacific Coast. Each year, a day in June is set a- side for the Carnival of Roses, held in Portland, Oregon. We, like the Red Rose, must grow and brighten the world of tomorrow and must bring happiness for others like the Red Hose does for us. The Red Rose is the most popular flower of the world. So let us remember for the days ahead, we must live and cherish ot- hers just like we do the Red Rose, for the Red Rose stands for fra- grance, loveliness and beauty. 1 , 1' 15 S ,mb I . -' L Q T, -T ' ., - ,-1. Throughout our years in high school, we have thought of her, not only as a teacher, but as our friend. In the near future, we will become graduates of the Larwill High School, and assume our responsibilities as citizens of this com- munity, or a far community. No matter where we are, we will re- member Miss Esarey because of her guidance and leadership.
