It was a memorable day in that class of 45 freshmen rude up of the nOld Stand-byesn of Richland Town- ship and those from both Etna and Troy Townships Whom we hardly knew but were soon to know and cherish as our class- mates of old Larwill Hight. During this first semester,'Dau- riee'Birch and Ruth Hile cane in 'too swell our crowd, but alas, Max Beasley and Paul Metzger, finding the first step too high, and Tayne Geiger hoping to join the ranks in an- other school, left us. Forty-four freshmen were able to successfully make the first step to the second step as soph- omores. School opened the next fall 119567 to fin the loss of Robert Jellison, Ronald Taylor, and Arland Walker who were pursuing their courses:elsewhcre.' In their stead came Glenn Moore, our little blond Dutch boy, and Joseph Hills CJoe to most of usb, came to break the monotonj of the nSophie'esca- pades.n Daniel Eberhard, finding the ladder too steep, left us later in the year. Ruth Hinkson left to go to Piercaton High School, but Alice Johnston, wishing to see and know new places, left Etna and came to Larwill. Joe Kills, finding life getting dull again, get Na-hankerin'U to go to Wolf Lake which left our sophomore group at forty. At the beginning of our junior year, thirty-nine of us made the third decisive step up the ladder which was bring- ing us just one step'nearcr to success,--We hoped.' Kenneth Bair, 'little UCubbyU, came to us from Wolf Lake. Lenore Deeter, everybody's sweetheart, Dorothy Estlick, that girl with those beautiful curls, Winona Klingansn, the nearest we have to a red headg and Arthur Kile, our bashful little boy, came over the border from Etna to join the Larwill bunch Ldgar Jolly, Eugene Marrs, Anna Matson, Hazel Bair, and Elie nore King, desirous of hunting success by some other way, left our ranks, Margaret Jackson failed to return at the beginning of the year, but at the start of the second semes- ter we found that she couldn't resist the beckoning call of L.H.S.---for was it because of someone else??D You say that Larwill couldn't possibly hold an attraction for anyonellll Then why did Mary Marrs also decide, after one semester's absence at Killersburg, to cone back to dear L.H.S,??? Lith Margaret's' return at the beginning of the second semester, Keith Hull, the greatest sage of all times, came'here from Washington Center, but before the end of the year, we were sad to see that Noble County again beckoned our way. This time two of our most faithful, Larl Hollopeter to Wolf Lake, and Hubert Keirn to Albion, left us. Thus ended the year of 1957-58 with thirty-nine still remaining, hoping to proceed further!!! am E Q S5525 ........ Nhat anguish, what dreams, what hopes, marked our as- cent to the last rung of the ladder in the fall of '58---but sorry to say, there were some who did not share in those feelings. Among these were, Dorothy Huggins, Helen Gebert, Marjory Young, who found interests in Bryan, Ohio, and Char- lotte Addison, who went to La Pel. Nevertheless there are thirty-four of us who through the course of these few years have successfully attained that for which we've been striv- ing, a high school education, with old Larwill High as our Alma Mater. nNot at the top, but climbingln After all, though, at the end of these twelve hard, but joyous and unforgetable years, we can not stop, but we must continue to press for- ward up the ladder which has risen still higher until we reach that plane where we may be able to find our place in the world, prepared to live a happy and worthy life, a life of service. Believe it or not!!! There have been 7 of the 29 who started just twelve long years ago to the first grade of Larwill School in 1927, who have not been bored with each other ----- Walter Krisher, Murray Keirn, Esther Souder, Treva Souder, Mary Beard, Mae Gebert, and Gladys Londt. Three big cheers for their perserverance!!!I Esther Ruth Souder CLASS FLOWER We, the class of '59, have chosen as our class flower the Varigated Sweet Pea. - - The Sweet Pea was first found in Sicily and even then found to be variable.. It was taken from its natural envir- onment and placed in laboratories where it was cultivated and cross-pollinated until many variations of the original Sweet Pea are now known all over the world. One of the most wonderful facts about the flower, is that it can be placed anywhere and it will grow with very little trouble. And so we, the Seniors of '59, expect to place oursel- ves in the world and grow with little or no trouble until we have reached the furthormost point of our ambition. Our highest goal is to cross-pollinate ourselves with our assoc- iatts and try to keep the outcome as sweet and pure as the Sweet Pea which we so proudly chose as our class flower. Even though it's a hard, slow, steady climb, We're trying to reach the top. As we trudge along, a few rungs may break, We must mend them and journey ahead. We must work to get nearer the top, our goal, Though our feet feel as heavy as lead. Each step that we take brings us nearer the top: We must labor and suffer all pain. There's happiness, joy, and good will in success. Oh, what a grand goal to attain! There are many who falter, not watching their step, There are many who fall by the way But those who have courage and do what is right Will get to the top some day. Let us be a group of whom people can say, nThere's some youth who are carefully timing Each step that they take, I'm sure they'll succeed.' We're Not at the Top, But Climbing. Daurice Birch f'. New we see Marjorie Hickman in the cosy home in the beautiful Wabash Valley. This match was finally made after Paul had burned up many gallons of gas, not to mention the two sets of tires. Winona Klingaman now appears as a nurse in a well known hospital in Fort Wayne. At last her dream of romance has come true. An army captain, who was injured in an automo- bile accident, and is in the hospital, has fallen in love with her. They expect a climax in June. Lucille Gradeless new appears on the field of visionf As she was very lonely in High School, she has started a Lonely Hearts Club for bashful young girls who wish dates with handsome boys. This is accomplished via the route of the telephone. She has now perfected a system whereby tele- phone calls cannot be traced. The picture now appearing is very unusual indeed. It surprises me. It is Lowell Kemery and Dorothy Estlick. Low- ell is the president and owner of the nHoot-Owln Brewing Corporation. While Dorothy, home maker that she is, keeps house and attends all the needs of her darling Lowell, also all the bridge parties in the com unity. She is also a prominent welfare worker. Walt Krisher, the Romeo of our class now appears on the scene., He has dedided that he liked the Northern Gals bet- ter than the Southern Gals, and has settled around Etna be- cause he didn't want to wear the road lopsided going to and from there. And new we see Ruby Marrs. She has met a very handsome man. He is U. R. Dumm, and is president of the 'No-Stickn Safety Pin Corporation. Ruby obtained a job as a private secretary in his office and worked there about a year when he began to notice thft she had a very interesting way about her. He took her out to lunch numerous times---thus leading up to a perfect romance., They can hardly wait until June 1. The scene new shifts to Herman Eberhard. He is a pilot for the Transcontinental Western Airways. He is a confirmed bachelor. But Herman, you want to watch out for that little stewardess, for she is out for you. They are as contented as they were years ago when they sat in bookkeeping class together. Alice Johnston now appears. She couldn't bear the thot of leaving dear old Larwill, so she settled in Pierceton with her old boy-friend, Roswell Robbins. They have a nest- ful of little nRobbinsn. Mary Marrs, having willed her Herman to Addie Mae Cramer, has decided that romance was not made for her so she has studied dietetics Cbecause her cooking never gave her indigestionl and has opened a restaurant in Larwill. The name of her restaurant is the UDew Drop Inn on Marrs.u Lenore Deeter, the belle of our class, now appears as a gangsters molll Oh no, folks, it's just a movie set. She has become a movie star after winning a beauty contest spon- sored by the nNot Heren Vanishing Cream Corporation. Her boy-friend of high school days, Glenn Moore by name, is try- ing very hard to obtain the party playing opposite her in her next picture by the name of 'Bullets and Babies Don't M1x.U And folks, if you like their little show tell your friends about it! Phyllis Firestone now appears as the wife of the WStork.' Not a real stork, ladies and gentlemen, just Will- ard Stitsworth, commonly known as the WStorkn. They have gone to live in her darling hubby's home-town in Michigan, whose name is so blurred that I cannot make it out. Dora Holyeross, who now appears, has decided to become an old maid. She has established a home for these unfortun- ate maidens. Itxis sltuated on a hill overlooking the sur- rounding country so that they can see any man approaching and can prepare themselves to ensnare him in their feminine wiles 0 We new see Beatrice Lansdowne as a head nurse in the hospital of Dr. Marion Blanchard. Bea, as every one knows, was very cheerful in school. She is now turning her cheer- fulness to Dr. Blanchard, whose experiment on a WNo Squeakn Shoe has failed. It is rumored that they get along very well. nGood luck, kidsn. We new find ourselves in the Shrine Auditorium in Fort Wayne. The people are waiting expectantly--the curtains part and who should walk out but Margaret Jackson. Despite the fact that she was one of the quietest girls in our class she has become a well-known public speaker. She is now lecturing on the subject of WHov to Behave in High Schoo1.u We now see Mae Gebert. She has married her Jerry and they have the WRightW and nleftn Bowers and the WAceW is on the way. Nice going--Eh--wot? An airplane is heard droning over head. It lands and our school pal, Virginia Menzie, steps out. She is champion uRound the Worldn pilot. Congratulations!!! This trip was sponsored by the NMore Spacen Airplane Company. And last but not least, we see Gladys Londt. Having graduated from the International Business College, she shun ned all jobs to work in the office of Jim Sweeneyfs nWe Fix- um Flatsn Garage. He is doing a thriving business.
