I-IERE'S TC US U-46 COMMUNITY November 4 meant not only the national election, but also the referendum for U-46. Many meetings were held both for and against the referendum, including a debate in which Mr. Charles Burnidge spoke for passage of the ref- erendum and Mr. Eugene Devitt spoke against. Four Lar- kin juniors were very active in the fight for the referendum. They spoke with classes, attended meetings, and attended the debate. Thanks is given to all Larkin students and faculty who helped U-46 pass the referendum and insure quality education to U-46 students for years to come. Pt,-21, ,sr rs is of I DEDICATION Mel Peters - friend, teacher, and model hu- man being - that is what he has been to the students who have been lucky enough to know him, to his colleagues who have been lucky enough to work with him, and to me personally and professionally. Those who have been pri- vileged to work with him will miss him deeply, and yet we will be challenged to continue with our own lives in a way that will reflect and fulfill his highest expectations for us. And now we all join together to wish Mel Peters the very best for his retirement years, feeling confident that his future will still be very active and productive and that those whose life path crosses his will be as inspired by Mel Peters as we have been. Iohn C. Pennoyer Mr. Peters is well-known to the students and faculty of Larkin High School. He is officially the Guidance Director, but is more often out in classes, talking to groups about college admis- sion testing or scholarships. In this way, he reaches all students planning to go to college. Then at most other times, he is available to talk to students in his office on a more personal face- to-face basis. These individual appointments often concern getting questions about college answered, but also may be concerned with help- ing students with personal problems. Above all of the expertise that Mr. Peters has, he is a friend to students and faculty that seek him out for information and help. I know this is true. I have worked in his department for nine- teen years. Don Abbs For ten years I have witnessed Carol Wieg's loyal service as sponsor of Cerulean. As she has held this position, she has not only taught her students, but has learned through sharing mutual ideas with them. Their accomplishments are exhibited in the variety of their public actions and the awards they have received during those Carol is a dedicated educator, a devoted wife, a loving mother who shares her life with kindness, devotion and dignity. Her students, her family and her friends are all richer for having known and worked with this special person. Betsy Powell DEDICATION 5
