Phi Theta Kappa's are masters of the former classification. Their forebearers were more concerned, perhaps, with movement of the travelling type. The mediums of transportation they used represent more than milestones in the progress of Laredo. The first era dawned with the coming of man on foot. Then, when man moved here on animal-and still later when he combined the use of animal and wheel-the man involved in those instances was making history. The date 1881 was the year of the arrival of the first rail- road to Laredo. Automobile roads-particularly the Pan-American Highway-brought another communi- cations revolution to the Gateway to Mexico. The aerial age also altered the life of Laredo, especially when during World War II the Laredo Air Force Base was opened to train flyers. VL. i 1 1 Vt 1 .
