Cl -i c The members of Thespian troup 70 whizzed through the 1949-50 school year under the leadership of President Maryan Forbes. Charles Van Blair was vice president: John Field, secretary-treasurer: Sue Rector, program chairman; and Velma Linford and Win Hungatc, sponsors. Nineteen new pledges presented an assembly to the school on October 13 and were initiated October 24. They were Pat Craig, Arlcn Davison, Donna Gabriclson, Bob Gictz, Marjorie Hansel, Pat Hood, Jerry Kaufman, Kathy McConnell, Merle McConnell, Elaine McMichael, Marylin Miller, Ted Payne, Lyell Riley, Dick Rowlett, Warren Sicbold, Jack Stanfield, Gary Thomason, Joan Thorburn and Jay Westerhausen. Sue Rector and Jere Stevens lead the cast of the fall production, Arsenic and Old Lace.” The play, one of the most difficult yet to be presented by the Thespians, brought a record crowd of enthusiastic spectators. Maryan Forbes was the Thespian candidate for homecoming queen and was elected one of the ladies in waiting. A float ( ?) following the theme of Arsenic and Old Lace appeared in the parade. In March the Thespians presented the original production, a take off on The Wizard of Oz , with original songs and dances. In the spring the club held honor night at which members were initiated into the national organization and were presented with awards. Members who received eight-jewel pins were Maryan Forbes, Marlene De- Kay, Charles Van Blair, Jere Stevens, Jo Strange, Mary Ann Petri, John Roberts, Nancy Bane, Jonnie Espach, John Field, Bob Guthrie and Leon Hoare. Ted Payne and Charles Van Blair were outstanding in the cast of A Midsummer Night's Dream which was presented by the Senior class. This fantasy delighted the audience with its beautiful scenery and costumes. Following this play ten seniors were admitted to the Thespian club. They were Beverly Arkoosh, Paul Baker, Phyllis Beach, Charlotte Eppler, Phil Irwin, Dorothy Koch, Shirley Rogan, Elaine Schwid, Adelaide Snivcly and Lcland Wheeler. jt Top row: Neil Waters, Vcrle Wilkey, Bob Smith, Dan McMichacl, Hubert Schaffer, Richard Viner, Charles Griffith. SPONSOR: O C. Rogers THE JUNIOR JESTERS Junior Jesters inaugurated a new system this year in their method of running the club. No officers were elected. Win Hungate, Junior Jester sponsor, said that it had worked out satisfactorily. This year there were one hundred and twenty-five students in Junior Jesters. All but five participated in the Christmas play, A Christmas Carol. Mr. Hungate hopes to make this play an annual Junior Jester pro- duction. The students did all the work themselves on their plays, A Christ- mas Carol, and their spring production, Cinderella and Aladdin. The work included designing and making up of sets, lighting, making pro- grams, making costumes and acting. flcitUo-r peAteia Back row: Dixie Lytle; Loretta Hayden, Mary Marsha Sullivant, Mar)' Katherine Hitt, Delores Scott, Gleada Cook, Jo Ann Seaton, Marilyn Barnes, Hope Haskins.
