This society has been part of the school's program for the past three years. As its name im- plies, membership is limited to the outstanding students of the junior and senior classes. These members are chosen by a faculty committee consisting of several high school teachers and the principal. Students chosen to become members of Lapel's Amphictyon Chapter of the Society must have attained the high stand- ards required and must have ex- cellent high school records. The four important requirements considered by the faculty com- mittee when selecting new mem- bers are as follows: CHARACTER, SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP, AND SERVICE. The purpose of the National Honor Society is best summed up by its pledge: I pledge myself to uphold the high ideals of the National Honor Society, to build a strong character in myself and others, to further the advance- ment of scholarship, to carry aloft the torch of leadership, and to serve my school, my community, and my country in the interests of humanity. , Suzanne Renner, Carolyn Noland, Barbara Williams, Lynda Woodward, Virginia Wood, Karen McDonald, Mary Ann Bright, jane Frick, Merrillyn Vance, Ann Steiner, Max Banning, David Rushton, Larry Nixon, Jack Roach, Leon Lutz, Marian Noggle, Sponsor, Steve Ferguson, Peggy Brown. An upset victory over Markleville in late season play soothed the hard times suffered by the Bulldogs . Coach Renbarger was forced to rely on inexperienced underclassmen during most of the season. Now that the tall underclassmen have acquired a year's experience, good times are being predicted for the team in the immediate future . The Bulldogs lost their first four meetings of the year to Pendleton, Yorktown, Highland, and Greenfield, respectively. The team then captured their first victory of the season at the expense of the Westfield Shamrocks. Seniors, Stan Sandefur and Delbert Miller. paced the win. The Bulldogs then lost the first of eight consecutive games as the Frank- ton Eagles handed the team their fifth defeat of the season. However, the Bulldogs edged the Markleville Arabians in what was per- haps the biggest upset in the county last Winter. Sandefur and Miller again sparked the victory. The Bulldogs Went into sectional play in the midst of a five game tail- spin as Madison Heights, Hancock Central, Summitville, Arlington, and Middletown all downed the team. Bobby Forrer attempts to score what looks like a sure two points during game with Madison Heights. Delbert Miller U21 shoots a short jump shot during game with Frankton as Steve Hudson attemps to stop the shot. S ss Us i?ac.'Q4. f3 OPPORTUNITIES UNLIMITED FOR INQUIRING MINDS There has never been a time when researchers were not shaping the lives of men. The wheel, the lever, the automobile and the space ship were all equally dependent on the inquiring mind. Progress expands with research. l Here at Delco-Remy, tor example, our research interest was largely concentrated on automotive applications a generation ago. We could have contented ourselves with just making better starting, lighting and ignition systems. l But what we wanted to do was provide electrical energytorthe needs of motion-all kinds of motion. At our luncheon tables these days, the conversation is likely to swing from semiconductors and transistor ignition systems to new devices for missile control or electrical power supplies for outer space. l We have a new ultra-modern research and engineering building nearing completion. ln it, our scientists and engineers will Rnd the most favorable environment possible tor imaginative research. l What are the rewards ofa scientific career? The opportunities are virtually un- limited. But there's something else equally important, we think. lt's the tremendous satisfaction to be derived from contributing to human progress. l lf you have an inquiring mind, it's a career you should think about.
