Only twelve years ago they were hoping and wondering if they would ever make it. Think of the torture and torment the poor teachers had to en- dure in supervising the education of these children From the first to the twelfth year this group has had many breathtaking, hair raising and sentimental moments. fWhoopee!!!!J Some members of the group can make the best paper wads you ever saw or. .feltl The need for hearing aids is felt when any of the female section has chewing gum. In the beginning they had quite a time getting acquainted. The girls were all ladies, of course, and the boys were little roughnecks, so after the girls blackened their eyes, knocked out 28 teeth Q32 counting the wisdom teethj they became fast friends in the first grade and have remained in the same temperament throughout all twelve years. Well, look at the results-No, maybe you shouldn't. Goodbye, Chums! HAPPY LANDINGS ! ! ! ! .-421 2 lf I , 41? 4 f Ff ,Q A . CL! Q I Q f Q fffz if ff 'J , K 9 I x av, 1-2? Q .,.. -E- lvl 1. It is for the purpose and pleasure of all those interested in music. We hold our meetings at the homes of the members. A committee is chosen to provide the entertainment for that evening. We meet three Mondays out of the month. More fun!! A Christmas party was held at the home of Harry Smith. Gifts were exchanged and refreshments were served. Fun was had by everyone-in spite of the weather. The Club also helped take part in putting on the spring festival. The twenty-two members are proud to be the first to organize this club. It is a lot of fun and we hope it will continue to be a success. -52- D SSGCIFU 1 E Sl-IIN X X or 6 1, Sunshine Society The Sunshine Society is an old society founded in 1901. Only in recent years has it become an honored Society in Lapel High School. It was organized with the idea of bringing sunshine and cheer to the shut-in, the old, the sick, and the unfortunate. The name Sunshine has a very deep significance to all the girls who are members. It means, Let your light shine. The society has as its motto, Good Cheer. The membership fee is only enough to carry on work of the organization. The colors are yellow and white symbolizing sunshine and purity. In short, the Sunshine Society means kindness, helpfulness, cheer- fulness, and happiness. This year the members chose for their officers the following: Presi- dent-Loretta Jones, Vice-President-Patty Millikan, Recording Secretary-Phyllis Hoffman, Corresponding Secretary-Evelyn Long, Treasurer-Mavrin Lennen, and Song Leader-Mabelrose Eckhardt. As our sponsor we chose Mrs. Huntzinger. Some of the activities of the year i have been rough initiation, the , formal initiation, contributions to the Riley Fund, Sunshine Camp, State Convention, Installation of officers, Mother and Daughtefs Banquet, Turkey Raffle, Minor Dances, and' Christmas formal dance. May this society continue to in- spire goodness and good will to all girls in the future Lapel Sunshine Society- MRS. HUNTZINGER -53- Z s 5.5.5. 5 Ps I. il ' l ii' 5- if -... D., , n Ta... M... Q65 Senior Class History The year 1942 marked a glorious point ln the history of our Lapel High School, for 'twas then that slxty-two brilliant students entered Lapel's doors. Miss Evelyn Glick, Mlss Hendrickson, and Mr. Armstrong had the honor of leadlng us through our nrst year. The omcers were Jlm Woodward, Presl- dent: Jlm Troutman, Vice President: Dorothy Davis, Secretary and Marvln Brattaln, Treasurer. all of whom proved very capable. We had two nice class parties, both of which were at the theater. We tlnlshed the year ln grand style, and were ready and waiting to tackle that Sophomore year. As Sophomores we really took the old place apart. We chose Miss Montle Wooden and Mrs. Huntzlnger as sponsors and the class otflcers were as fol- lows: Jlm Troutman, President: Joan Anderson, Vlce President: Marvln Brattaln, Secretary: and Blll Conrad, Treasurer. We had two parties. one of which was a skating party at the Lapel Rink. We really took the prlze when we set a new hlgh ln the annual magazine sale campaign of the Sophomores. We struggled through our studies amid the leers and jeers of all the faculty, and ln some way obtained our credits. Our class lost two members to the Armed Forces, Carrol Burke and Max McCain. In our Junior year we chose Blll Conrad, President: Jim Woodward, Vlce Presldent: Marvin Brattaln, Treasurer: and Evelyn Paulsel, Secretary, Our Guiding Llghts were Miss Montle Wooden and Mrs. Lorls Creed. Wlth the co-operation of class members and sponsors we put on a class play, Meet Uncle Sally, and lt was a grand success. We ordered our class jewelry from Bert! Jones Co. and along with our class sweaters. obtained when we were Sophomores, we were adorned like Kings. After a lot of work and plannlng, we put on a Junior-Senior banquet honoring the Senlor Class of 1945. All present enjoyed the banquet very much. Two more of our classmates, Charles Breece, Jr. and John Kluesner, entered the service of our country. We started the Senlor year with forty-slx students, who made up what we consider an ideal class. Our officers. Blll Conrad, President: Jlm Woodward, Vlce President: Idamonte Sylvester, Secretary: and Halfred Holloway, Treas- urer have led our class through our last enjoyable year. Our Senlor Class play, Bolts and Nuts was well presented and was one of our nnest class actlvltles. Wlth a lot of work and a little fun the class is putting out this Annual. We hope lt shall be the best ever. We have had a lot of fun and hope we have done a lot of good. As much as we dlsllke lt. we must leave the good old school but there shall be another class to take ou.r place and we hope they will dll lt well. Freshman Class History History? We are just beglnnlng to make ours. The Freshman Class has tlfty- nve members, thirty glrls and twenty-live boys, all worthy, willing and ready to make an outstandlng class. Our sponsors tor this year are Mr. Crooke and Mlss Hendrickson. We chose the following clam members as -65.- P256 S 'ae lk Histor U omcers: President, Jack Howell: Vlce President, Bill Barker: Secretary, Charlene Valentine: and Treasurer, Carolyn Rlch. The upper-classmen llke to regard the Freshman class as little. green Fresh- les but nevertheless, we have settled down and have done our part ln school actlvltles. The basketball team from the Freshman class has brought glory to the name of Lapel as a full schedule was carded and the Fresh- man Squad lost only one game. As a class party we attended the theater for an enjoyable evenlng and had a lot of fun. In a few years we wlll be Seniors so we say, Look out, here come the Freshmen. unior Class History In the Fall of 1943. nity-three excited Freshmen wandered into the noted Assembly. No speclal actlvltles brightened our nrst year but lt was pretty swell anyway. We selected Dave Sylvester for President: Robert Wilson, Vlce President: Keith Stinson, Secretary: and Donald Parker, Treasurer. We entered as Sophomores feeling like veterans. We started 0E with a bang ln breaking all previous records of magazine sales. Dave Sylvester became our President again: Robert Wilson, Vlce President: Keith Stinson, Secre- tary: and Marjorie Massey, Treasurer. Now we are wlse old Juniors. After so long a time our class jewelry came and were we proud! We acquired a new President. Dave Sylvester and Roh- ert Wxlson traded otllces. Vlctor Smith became Treasurer and Jack Watkins, Secretary. This year brought our nrst chance to make our own choice of sponsors and we selected Mrs. Haugk and Mr. Armstrong. Our class now has only thirty-nine members but we are stlll going strong and are looking tor- ward to The Year ahead of us. Sophomore Class History In 1544 we forty-nine llttle green Freshmen entered the portals o! good old Lapel High, By the end of the year we had grown to flfty. We had two ilne sponsors, Mrs. Haugk and Miss Kelso, who started us well on our way. We chose Danny Richardson as President and plunged lnto our school actlvltles. Our biggest thrill ol the year was the Seniors' welcoming party for us. This was followed by our second semester theater party. By this time we had become settled and were accepted as Bona Fide members of the hlgh school. Now we are real genuine Sophomores. Our new President ls Raymond Ren- barger, and our competent sponsors are Miss Kelso and Mr. Halsey. Under thelr leadership we embarked on the magazine sale undertaken each year by the Sophomore Class. We made a grand success and the winning side was entertained with a party by the losers. We have ordered our class sweaters and shall be frequentlng the school for the next two years, adorned ln blue and white. We plan to sponsor a show to Increase our class funds and add to our clam actlvltles. We nnlshed the year ln line style with Iorty-seven faithful members ln our class. We have had a lot of fun, have done a lot of things, and are looking forward to the remainder ol our high school career. EQ lfil mx ll Ni 0 l ox f 0 . Bruno was second in scoring this year with a total of 163 points. I-le graduates this year and will surely be missed! He was asked once ln a whlle to 1111 in guard position, although he played forward. which he did very nicely. Nice work, Carp. r. at UARMY.. Coach Orville Amxstrong guided the Bulldogs through a very successful season, winning fourteen of the eigh- teen scheduled games. He has just completed his sixth year at Lapel, pro- ducing several fast-breaking teams. When Army was in high school, he always said that he was going to coach Lapel or Alex sometime. We are all very glad that he chose Lapel. HOLLOWAY Halfred Holloway is another good for- ward that graduates this year. Hal has also played some good ballgames for Lapel and wishes he could play some more. He came ln third ln point- gettlng with a total of 161 points. Nice going, Bones, -THE '46 BULLDOG- MATTOX John Mattox has had a hard time In his basketball career. Although he was not the star center he could be relied upon when he was needed. John made only 26 points during the season but the records don't show his man get- ting so many points either. Thanks for the help you've given Lapel, Johnny. ,,,,,. ..,... -. . . ., MONTGOMERY Herman Montgomery, Jr. is a boy who played guard and has also played basketball for Lapel for the last seven years. He was always in there pitch- ing when he was needed and that was quite often. Mont was Hfth in the lineup for points with a total of 86. Junior also graduates this year and will be missed very much. Good work, Roller WOODWARDU James Woodward is a guard who grad- uates and will sorely he missed. He has also played ball for Lapel the past seven years. and was their captain. T'herefore, he was voted the honorary captain for this year. Jim was fourth ln scoring this year with a total of 158 points. Nice ball-handling, Lefty. -1'HE'46B WIIBON Bob Wilson was a very good center and led in the scoring lineup with 205 points. He also held individual scoring honors at the sectional with 49 points. Bob has another year with the squad and therefore will be able to do a lot more damage to the opposing teams. Let's go, Bob. lun..ud,,F XX SYLVEBTER Dave Sylvester has played some ex- cellent ball for Lapel and is expected to do a lot in that line next year. Little David' d1dn't see much action this year and therefore only scored 24 points. Keep pitching, Silly. UHENDRICKSH Harry Hendricks d1dn't see much ac- tion toward the beginning of the sea- son but toward the end he came in very strong. Harry wasn't too tough on the offensive by only scoring 45 points but his defensive playing made up for it. He also is a Junior and therefore will be with the team next year. Keep going, Harry. -THE '48B WI1J.IAMS Dick Williams has served one year as statlstlclan: the last two years he has been student manager. He was very emclent and always on the job. Dlck is a Senior: he deserves much credit for his faithful service. SISSON Herschel Eugene Slsson started play- lng on the first team late in the seas- on but made a very good showing for himself. Despite this handicap he scored 9 points. Sis ls only a Soph- omore this year and therefore a lot is expected out of him In the next two years unless he has to go into the Service. Stay out of the draft, F1rebug. HUFFMAN Dave Huffman considered himself a very good bench-warmer, but when he did get in the ball games, he dld very well for himself. Dave was only a Junior this year so he will also be able' to play another year. Because he dldn't see' much action, Dave was only able to score 11' points. Go get 'em.
