This same process was used to penetrate the complexities and arrive at the essence of Lapeer High School in these pages. Tradition, the past and present unified, is the logical place to begin this search. Our tradition is best typified by the Alma Mater and will provide an initial view of our school. You always worked so hard with us that you had to stop sponsoring many clubs and activities in order to devote all of your time to counseling. You rendered service many years as a class sponsor. The students will never forget your help with class plays, proms, and parties. Above all we will never forget the many games you attended, always sitting with the students. âThe Athletic Association will remember you for the fine work you did as treasurer. âAs for yourself, you must also hold fond memoriesâsuch as your graduation from Lapeer High School. Then you furthered your education at Central Michigan University, with a Bachelor of Science degree. You taught first at Howell, Michigan. After a year there you returned to your home town, Lapeer, where you have taught for nine years. You live presently on Stacy Road in Lapeer. âRemembering those services given so willingly to the students of Lapeer High School, we sincerely hope that the many students yet to enter the counseling office and classroom of Mr. William Stacy will also come under the influence of his devotion to teach, guide and inspire.â âStudents of Lapeer High School 26 Students welcome advice from Mr. Stacy on an English assignment. The library is a good source of information for faculty as well as students. Mr. Stacy's counseling office is always open to students. 27 CHRISTMAS BALL Anne Porter andDennisRunningwerecrownedSnowQueen and King of the 1966-67 Christmas Ball. âWinter Holidayâ was the theme for the Christmas Ball. Sparkling decorations and music from the Bill Small Band were only part of the festivities. Snow King Dennis Running and Snow Queen Anne Porter were chosen by the seniors from a court consisting of five girls and five boys: Ann Buckley, JoAnne McGlashen, Pam Mclnally, Vickie Walz, Warren Birkenhauer, John Beattie, Chris Hansen, and Jim Minton. The Christmas Ball was a senior project this year. 28 Exchange Students Find Lapeer Very Friendly âIt is a wonderful experience to get to know another country through first-hand experience, especially to get to know the great variety of people.â Seniors have acquired two fine additions to their class from across the sea, exchange students Cornelia Sperling of Frankfurt, Germany, and Per Bengtsson of Goteburg, Sweden. Cornelia made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Greener. In her spare time she reads and is interested in a variety of sports. Cornelia is active in Student Council, Library Club and Pep Club. Per is the first male exchange student Lapeer has ever had. He lives with Mr. and Mrs. Francis Brinkman. Per cursed the long winter because he could not wait to get out on the golf course. He also participated in Student Council activities. Even though Per and Cornelia must return home, we will never forget the wonderful times we have shared with them. 30 Being an exchange student is just great. Valedictorian Scholastic achievement of Carol Cosens gave her the honor of becoming Salutatorian. She is the daughter of Mrs. Emojean Cosens. Outside of school her favorite activities are reading, sewing, sports, and taking piano lessons. She attends the Trinity Methodist Church and is a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Carol has also enjoyed the outdoor life of a Girl Scout. It took a lot of time and studying to keep the 3.8657 average she now holds, but she also found time to enter such clubs as Future Teachers, playing the flute in the school band, and becoming a Student Council representative. Her high average and fine character make her a member of the Honor Society. Carol plans to enroll at Adrian College to earn a degree in Christian Education. âSitting around and doing nothing is what I enjoy doing most,â was a statement made by Lynn Irwin, 1967âs Valedictorian. By the looks of her activities and her 3.9739 average she seldom does this. Lynn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Myers. Her two favorite sports are snow skiing and sailing. Lynn is a member of the Future Teachers Club, Pep Club, and Ski Club. She has been an assistant librarian, and member of the Library Club since her arrival to Lapeer from Kingsberry. Lynn is a member of the National Honor Society and definitely fills their requirements. She is seriously considering spending her college years at Kalamazoo majoring in French. A career as a librarian also interests Lynn. Salutatorian 31 Class History In the fall of 1963 in the Junior high, we started our high school careers as freshmen. We were truly fresh or new as we faced the future undaunted and full of hope. We looked for leaders and chose Jim Dillon, president, Walt Beardslee, vice-president, Pam Mclnally, treasurer and Anne Porter, secretary. We completed our list of freshmen duties by picking red and white as our class colors and enjoyed a fine freshmen party. The opening of our sophomore year found us bewildered by the marvels of the Senior High. It was so BIG! We got under way be electing new officers; Ralph Potter, president, Pam Mclnally, vice-president, Cindy Henderson, secretary and Alice Ross, treasurer. We chose Pam Mclnally as our representative to the Homecoming Court. Now a definite part of the student body, we took giant steps toward directing student activities. In the spring elections our cadidates for vice-president and secretary, Ralph Potter and Pam Mclnally, were elected. The school year rapidly fading, we enjoyed our first semi-formal event, the Sophomore Prom. Opening activities our sophomore year saw us again in the middle of elections. We put our class in the capable hands of Jim Eastman, president, Anne Porter, secretary, Alice Ross, vice-president and Cindy Henderson, treasurer. Pam Mclnally was chosen as our representative on the Homecoming Court. We presented our first play that spring, CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN. Student body elections saw heated competition for offices with the addition of three new positions on a Student Court. Aletta Agnew, Kathy Bergin, and Dave Wenzel were selected as judges, and Laura Madden, Pam Mclnally and Cindy Henderson won executive positions on the Student Council. As our fourth and final year began, we chose those who would lead us; Bob Baldwin, president, Anne Porter, vice-president, Ann Buckley, secretary and Karen Fitzgerald, treasurer. A beautiful new football field filled us with pride and made our Homecoming perfect. Cindy Henderson, Anne Porter, Pam Mclnally, Vicki Walz and Joann McGlashen were senior attendants on Queen Laura Maddenâs court. We presented a light comedy for our senior play, THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER. At Christmas time, we sponsored a Winter Holiday Ball complete with King and queen to reign over the fesitivities. Dennis Running and Anne Porter did the honors. Now we are standing at graduationâs door. The prospects for a successful future are bright for each of us. Graduation is our admission to the great wide world, our right to begin shaping our future. 32 Respectfully submitted, Bob Baldwin, senior class presi Karen Fitzgerald and Ann Buckley Treasurer and Secretary, respectfully, of the senior class. President Bob Baldwin discusses important business with Vice-President Ann Porter. Senior Class Officers and Sponsors Senior class sponsors were Mrs. N. O'Rourke, Mrs. Weaver, Mr. Farnsworth, and Mrs. Bothell. Mr. Harding was absent. 33 The Man That Came To Dinner The Senior play cast from left to right: Row 1: K. Riedel, S. Warren, M. Bolton, T. Sophomore Class Officers and Sponsors We found our sophomore year at L.H.S. to be filled with many new responsibilities and activities. To finance such activities as the Freshman and Sophomore Prom, we sell baked goods at noon to fellow students each month. We also enjoy taking part in selling refreshments at both football and basketball games. The end of this year marks the halfway point of our senior high years. We watch the upper classmen anxiously, seeing what our next two years will hold for us. Seated: Mrs. Oârourk, Miss Belts, and Miss Schroeder. Communication Telephones are placed throughout the school for the convenience of the students. We the students of Lapeer Senior High believe communication is one of the most vital factors in our students life. Through these few pages we hope to help you understand this better. 116 Faculty members exchange ideas for presentation of a new unit. Fourth hour provides time for exchanging news of friends, school activities and the pop quiz in English class. Interplay of words between teacher and students is what makes Our daily newspaper is the public address system. L. H. S. tick. 117 See Us Work As we look on all the hard work and effort the students have done to expand their knowledge, we see moments when the statement â âItâs fun to learnâ proves itself right. It does not matter if it involves the use of many objects or just a textbook. It helps us to form interests and find out if we wish to use it as a skill or hobby. Chemistry lab unfolds the surprise of breaking down materials and discovering what they consist of. 118 Future homemakers patiently wait and watch as their experience in cooking is put to the test. Students attain new skills in precision work in shop class. A marketable skill is being taught to these girls. 119 See Us Play âThere is a time for work and a time for playâ also pertains to school. We are provided with lunch hours, activity periods, and extra-curricular activities for all to participate in. Bob Fisher takes our signs literally. One of our many assemblies was conducted by Mr. Vic Hyde. . . . and now a word from our sponsors. 120 Concession stands are really hopping at half-time. Would you believe Don Thumb? Sitting one out can sometimes be as much fun as dancing. 121 The students enjoy the opportunity of working in concessions. Songs sung by the school chorus are enjoyed by the whole school. See Us Even out of class the students ask for the assistance of the teachers. In the few minutes before the class bell sounds, we have time to get the latest school news. 122 1 believe in teenagers. Football, a major outdoor fall sport, is enjoyed by both spectators and contestants. Whether winning or losing, the game is full of spirit, action, and tension. The new football stadium was put to use late in the season and the team showed the crowd their appreciation by winning the Beecher game. Even though the season was in one respect unsuccessful, the players never lost their team spirit, the real mark of success. Mr. DeCou gives helpful suggestions to our end, Paul Stern. Homecoming is one of the most exciting events of the school year. The football game, the crowning of the queen and the Homecoming dance occupy the minds of the students for many weeks. We the students plan the events while the football team readies itself for the big game. Many alumni come home to see the new queen reign over her night. In the week preceding Homecoming, Student Council sponsors a student body assembly. The candidates are presented and are asked questions. Voting follows immediately after the assembly but the announcement of the outcome is not made until the night of the big game. As the candidates assemble on the football field with their escorts at halftime the tension mounts. The loudspeaker blares the name of Homecoming Queen â67 and the stadium breaks into enthusiastic applause. Laura Madden moves to the center of the field to accept her crown from Paul Parsch, Student Council president. After the excitement of the game, couples hurry to change for the Homecoming dance. The cafeteria is transformed and as if by magic it becomes Queen Lauraâs palace and we are her subjects. 138 Row 1. L-R. Lynn WiUiams, Micky Hayden, Linda Daymond. Row 2. L-R. As students of L.H.S. we have found a richness in ideas, in people, and in ourselves. Each individual student has developed his own special interest and talent. The past years have helped us find meaning and purpose for our future lives. This has been a time of preparation. Now, prepared, we look forward to the future. Standing L-R: D. Ostrander, R.
