We Were Here All of Us In Lapeer On Millville Road 7 At Lapeer High School We I t ’ere Here . and. PANTHERSCOPE Each year there is always a great effort put forth to add something new and exciting to the Panther scope. Feelings of loyalty, dedication, and other such abstract passions, predominately senior, are difficult to capture and make tangible. Perhaps if everything is just plainly tagged as “MEMORIES”, each reader will insert his own bit of fervor to the copy and pictures. Yes, that's a good idea. After all, it is your workshop. The Seniors of Lapeer High School wish to dedicate their yearbook to someone they consider very outstanding. This man is always willing to lend his hand to help where it is needed, showing his patience and understanding. He has helped, with his influence and his willingness, complete any task that needs extra assistance. By doing this, he has helped to better the school and the students. We would therefore, like to dedicate our yearbook with enthusiasm and pride to Mr. Donald Miller. We feel that it is one way, that we can show how much he means to Lapeer High School’s student body. When we place his name on this page, we will also place it in each one of our hearts. 18 The Miller Family Mr. Miller, Carol, Julie, Mrs. Miller, and Nommy the Cat. Board oj Education R-L. M ixed This is an excellent corner in which to talk about a highly interesting subject. The choruses! It seems as though they are in hiding, because the only occasions that the student body is graced with their voices is during the Christmas season or a special assembly. Chorus I have made some personal interviews with various chorus members. They are vehement in their words of praise for the course and admiration for their instructor. I think they pity us non-singers. But there is one way we can save face. Learn, if you haven’t already, to appreciate the fine art of music. 87 Our Qiieen st LAA- Queen V Court Carolyn Zuhlke Pam Mclnally, Junior Debbie Rice, Sophomore Linda Daymon, Freshman Homecoming—1965 The Big Moment!!!! 89 A Throne Fit For A Queen ! Yup, we're the Seniors Aren’t the Seniors just the greatest Going Tournaments 102 An anxious moment! p s p 0 R T S In Memoriam We, the class of 1966, devote our yearbook to the memory of our friend and classmate, Leslie G. Moses SENIORS Exchange It is surprising what tremendous amounts of fresh and new experiences a person can accept. Not only accept, but handle with real charm, becoming a natural habitant of an alien land. We are speaking of the Fraulein from Germany, Sybille Fleck. She is participating in Lapeer’s 1965-66 academic school year. Her new family is the Hupp’s, on Main Street. From observance, one is able to see that Sybille has made plenty of buddies. As far as studying goes, it, too, is a success. This exchange student is not only intelligent, but has the wholesomeness of youth. Il Students Our school was privileged enough to have not one, but two students visit us from a foreign country this year. This young lady, Anita Sirkeinen, flew in from Finland. She stayed with the Wickstroms, on Baldwin Road. The location was fine, because Anita had a passion for outdoor activities, and the Wickstroms live in the country. Her hardworking abilities has won admiration from all. We found Anita to be a quiet, interesting individual, who made the old world seem more enticing than ever. Class History FRESHMAN 1962-1963 In the fall of 1962 we started what we have heard from many sources to be “the best years of our lives.” Of course, we thought our class was the greatest ever, and we were going to set the world on fire. That year as Freshmen we elected Dennie Sweet, President; Sue Eckersley, Vice President; Sally Byers, Secretary; and Sue Ellen Kingsbury, Treasurer. In the spring we enjoyed our first and very successful Prom. SOPHOMORE 1963-1964 As a proud and confident group of Sophomores we entered Lapeer High School. To start off the year we elected David Abruzzo, President; Pam Abruzzo, Vice President; Ann Parsch, Secretary; and Kathy Henderson, Treasurer. In the spring of that year the annual Student Council Elections were held. Our candidates were Dave Rice, for President; Joe Voss and Ann Parsch were elected as officers. We ended our year with a beautiful Prom. JUNIOR 1964-1965 After our Sophomore year we started the third in a series of successful years in high school. We got a good start that year by electing Dave Rice, President; Howard Rowden, Vice-President; Sandra Harris, Secretary; and Paula Bohnsack, Treasurer. Our junior year developed into the busiest of our high school career. We had various fund raising activities, such as car-washes, to help finance our activities. In the spring we presented our play, “Ladies in Retirement.” The play was an outstanding drama, a mystery, with a lot of humor. It was successful due to the fine cast, ambitious stage crew, and hard-working committees. Then in May the annual Student Council elections were held. Our class nominated Joe Voss for President; Roger Vesley for Vice President; Ann Parsch, Secretary; and Paula Bohnsack, Treasurer. Joe Voss and Paula Bohnsack were elected to office. For our Junior-Senior Prom we picked the theme, Moon River. The Class worked very hard on it and we were rewarded with a great prom. SENIOR 1965-1966 After an educational andfun filled summer, which seemed all to short, we resumed our final year of high school. We began by electing Roger Vesely, President; Pam Abruzzo, Vice President; Shari Wickstrom, Secretary; and Sherry Hupp, Treasurer. For the Senior Play we presented “The Mouse That Roared,” a humorous satire upon the United States doreign aid program. It was a huge success, sparked by an ambitious, hard-working cast, a good stage crew, and a fine group of students that made up the committees. Our athletic competition showed that we had some very hard-working, serious-minded athletes playing on our teams. With spring came the Prom, Swing-out, Honors Assembly, Baccalaureate, and finally Commencement. So as we leave our Alma Mater, we feel numerous things, joy, sadness, a thirst for adventure and pride. We would like to voice our appreciation to the faculty, administration, our class sponsors, our friends, and our parents for the sacrificies they have made to help us become prepared for our future, whatever, it may be. 109 Roger Vesely President, Senior Class—1966 THE MOUSE The Mouse That Roared is a saterical comedy giving us a clearer view of the cold war situation. The plot is formed of a love affair of Ensign Nellie Forbush, a nurse, and Emile de Becque, a French planter. A conflict starts when Nellie finds out Emile was married to a Polynesian woman and is a widower with two children. Upon realizing that Nellie is avoiding him, Emile volunteers to go on a dangerous spy mission. He returns to find Nellie has grown deeply fond of his children; and more important, she now fully appreciates the high quality of Emile. Their romance achieves a happy conclusion. All members of the choir who participated in this spectacular show will always remember the joy and hard work put into a successful production. We, the Senior Class of ’66 are filled with pride for our valedictorian. Becky Schrader, a dark-skinned gal with piercing blue eyes, is the L. H. S. “winner of the year.” She has had her eyes on that goal since nursery school. It could be easily believed that Beck had a baby B.A. in critical analysis or thinking or just plain hard work. With the backing of a 4.000 average, why dispute the compliment? Becky has two things on her mind. The first, which she is working on at the present, is to “decide the big political move that will solve the world problems.” The other project is to major in social sciences when she enters Mary Grove (Detroit) in the fall. In respect to the future, this class will probably never completely forget Bee. As for now, we wish her the best. VALEDICTORIAN We have two seniors holding down the Salutatorians honors. One half of them belong to Macia Hoagland, second in a class of approximately 300. Not bad, huh? Marcia is a mysterious, soft spoken, young woman who has a remarkable talent for words and ideas. Both she and they warrant a second reflection. Her plans for the up-coming years envelope Flint J. C. (transferring later to the U. of M. branch in Flint) to major in elementary teaching. May we, the seniors of ’66, extend our hopes of success to her? It is seldom that a boy reaches such “bright lights” academically here in Lapeer, especially a red-headed one. But, look. George Gleason is a senior, red-headed, and the co-salutatorian of the ’66 graduating class! George has always found school a whiz, establishing a reputation as being a brain. He has chosen to bend his abilities toward the wide and challenging field of agriculture, making Michigan State University his Alma Mater. Say, if you ever need help in your schoolwork, ask George.
