Ill Dedication The Senior Class of 1964 in appreciation to Mr. Harold Harding, who has been our sponsor for 3 years, dedicate this yearbook to him. We would like to thank him for all the invaluable help he has given us throughout our high school careers. 2 Autographs Foreword We, the students of Lapeer High School, believe that in our school we can find friendship, excitement, and knowledge. As we entered the doors to our school our eyes looked for guidance. We have found guidance in our sports, in our clubs, in our studies, and in our outside activities. Through the pages of our book you shall find the school life, that you and I believe in, separated into seasons to show our activities as we have lived them. ✓ Left to right: Mr. Wm. VanDusen; Mr. Gordon Hall, Business Manager; Mr. Ronald Warner. Assistant Superintendent; Mr. Albert Sealey; Mr. R. C. Rasmussen, President; Dr. Robert Stern, Secretary; Dr. Edward Green; Mrs. Edward Hanson. Not present: Mr. C. K. Schickler. Mr. Albert Sealey Mrs. Edward Hanson Administration Mr. Charles Harrow, Principal of the Senior High School Miss Margie Smith, Senior High Secretary Mr. Gordon Hall, Business Manager Counselors Mrs. Downs Mrs. Moore Librarian Faculty Mr. Wilson Miss Steele Mrs. Compton Mr. Stacy Mr. Samuelson Mrs. Johnston Mrs. Geriach SCHOOL NURSE Mrs. Jagow THOUGHTS It still seems not quite possible That the milestone is in view, It seems that there's so little time And still so much to do! Happy days of work and play That filled our lives for years, Now must end in joy and pride. But, still will flow the tears. Though memories will always live In hearts, forever true. This thought will ever be with each: These twelve years seemed too few. The hate that once burned deep Within a selfish mind. Will be forgotten, shortly. For no longer are we blind. Now we fully realize The sacrifices made— 20 The help of thoughtful teachers Can never be wholly repaid. The halls take on new meaning. Old friends’ faces seem new— Now we begin to understand The credit that they’re due. There’s found in every moment A memory and a tear— The cherished recollections Of the days we hold so dear. Resentment is no longer. In our hearts there’s only love; May the wisdom that we’ve gained here Their expectations prove. The many joys and sorrows That came in so many ways, Will always be remembered When we think of high school days! 21 Class History F resh men—1960-1961 In September of 1960 we, the class of 64. embarked upon four of the greatest years of our lives. We were Freshmen and this was our first year of high school. It was with mixed emotions that we started to get in the swing of high school life, for we were still wary of this experience, yet so eager for the benefits we knew would come. As Freshmen, we elected Pat Unger, President; Ann Duckwall, Vice-President; Dawn Engle. Secretary; and Ruth Ann Wesley, Treasurer. In the spring, we shared the cost of the Freshmen-Sophomore prom with the Class of '63 and enjoyed our first high school prom. Sophomores--l 961-1962 To start our Sophomore year we experienced a great change from the crowded masses of the old high. We started the year in our beautiful new school, a just setting for another successful year. As Sophomores we elected Mike Calvert. President; Dave Priestap, Vice-President; Jane Wangler, Secretary; and Dana Crawford. Treasurer to lead our class in our first year in the new school. Something extra special happened this year, a Sophomore made the very first officially recorded basket in the beautiful new gym. In May. we found ourselves in the midst of Student Council campaigns We chose Dave Parsch, Mike Abruzzo, Jane Wangler and Dana Crawford, for President. Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer respectively to represent our class for Student Council. The ticket was split as our candidates for President and Vice-President were chosen to lead the school. We ended the year by enjoying our Sophomore prom, which had an Oriental theme. Juniors—1962-1963 Oir Junior year marked the third of a series of successful years in high school. We began by electing Mike Powell. Butch Yeich, Jane Wangler and Dana Crawford to lead our class. For our Junior play, we presented a thrilling yet funny mystery entitled-Drums of Death. Led by an excellent cast, and with the help of hard-working committees, it was a great play and marked another success in our history. In the spring, we instilled in the minds of the student body the importance of Student Council elections, by exerting a great effort in campaigning for our candidates of Dave Parsch, Butch Yeich. Carrie Golhlke and Gwen Carls. We made these elections a thing to be remembered as the Juniors won a majority of the offices and Dave Parsch was elected for a second term. We presented the Seniors with a beautiful prom entitled. Cafe de Paris. On observing Commencement exercises that year, the realization struck us that in just a few short months we would begin our final year of high school. We would be the leaders instead of the followers, we would be looked up to, rather than looking up ourselves, we would be experiencing what so many people, as Seniors, have experienced in the past, yet what everyone fails to recognize unless they are Seniors themselves. Seniors—1963-1964 After an impossibly short summer, we began our final year of high school. This was to be another successful year. Just as the previous three. We began the year by electing Dave Priestap. Rod Montgomery, Kay Ongena, and Jane Wangler. We proved our ability to co-operate and really work as a class by presenting the hilarious play, “Archie Andrews as our Senior play. Led by a fine cast, the play certainly added to the prestige of our class. This year was certainly a year not to be soon forgotten. Two things made it especially outstanding. First of all, led by a starting line-up of five Seniors, the Lapeer High School basketball team won for the first time in its history the District Class A championship, and went on to the I.M.A., proudly representing L.H.S. Another distinct change this year was the change in graduation robes from the usual gray to blue for the boys and white for the girls. This certainly showed what we could do as a class, for after numerous meetings with the administration, class meetings, correspondence with various companies and voting, we received what we had so diligently worked for. With the distinction of being the first class to complete three full years in our new school, we set ourselves apart from the usual tradition by proudly displaying these beautiful new robes as the inevitable chain of events that so rapidly faces each Senior. With the spring, came the prom. Swing Out. Honors Assembly. Baccalaureate, and finally Commencement. The same thought crossed each mind as we experienced these last events of our high school days: It seems like only yesterday that we were Freshmen. But with maturity comes reality. We look back to see and remember all the wonderful events of our high school days and all the help, guidance and advice we received from the administration and faculty, for which we are truly grateful and we know these have been the best days of our lives. “Seems like only yesterday? Yes. it does, but we live by the prophecy of a handful of yesterdays, only one today and an eternity of tomorrows. So it is with pride, satisfaction, gratefulness and some sadness that we, the Class of 1964 go “out of school's life, into life's school to serve mankind, with the knowledge we have gained here from our instructors, advisers and most of all, our friends, whom we shall never forget. Panther The school paper, the Panther Press, is published by students from all three classes. This year’s staff has included five seniors, eleven juniors, six sophomores. Because so many students were interested in working on the paper, two staffs published the Panther Press alternately. Working on the paper includes gathering information, writing the stories for publication, gridding the material so it is in tidy columns for the typists, typing, pasting, taking pictures, and the hardest job, hunting new and worthwhile ideas constantly. Teen Club The Teen Club is devoted to travel. The members make and sell household decorative items and use the money to travel to a point of interest in Michigan. And as she tells her listeners—the cold Inquisitor from Spain, the politically cynical Earl of Warrick, the deeply religious but ineffectual Cauchon and all the others—of what she heard and what she did. her story comes alive. There is no scenery in the usual sense. Merely a few levels of steps and platforms, and lights. With this freedom, the story of Joan of Arc can move backward or forward without an interruption. 117 Mixed Chorus Row 1: L to R.
