In it you will see the life of our school in action and many other things. The name of the school is Lapeer Senior High-located on the northwest corner Of the old Lynch farm; longitude eighty-three degrees, latitude forty-three degrees. The date is 1962, the advent of our new school, the time is just before graduation. Student Cife Section Look and See. Show and Tell, This is the School We know so well. In so much, as to show our gratitude of your endeavour to promote learning and understanding we dedicate this book to you. At left, a parent talking to Mr. Me Eachern, during Open House. Parents come to our school for various reasons. Here we find some enjoying the band concert which was presented at an assembly program. Open House a time for parents to visit not only school but also teachers. A Time set aside by the administration for parents to discuss problems with teachers. interested Parents Of Our Students The Home Coming Assembly brought interest to several parents who suddenly found themselves caught up in the swirl of activities, when they discovered their daughters were candidates. And they've asked a friend of mine what they should put in the cornerstone for people to dig-tTp a thousand years from now. Of course, they've put in a copy of the New York times and a copy of Mr. Webb's Sentinel. We're putting in a Bible and the Constitution of the United States and a copy of William Shakespeare's Plays. . . . Y'know Babylon once had two million people in it, and all we know about 'em is the names of the kings and some copies of wheat contracts and the sales of slaves. Capeer Board Of Gducation Taking another step in keeping with our theme of Our Town, we have taken the pictures of the School Board members at their place of occupation. As you look at these citizens of our community you will no doubt notice that they come from all walks of life to serve the school and the community. We are sorry that Dr. Green's picture is not shown on these pages, but unfortunately he was not available at the time these pictures were taken. MR. ALBERT SEELYE Our Ofia n s We the student body of Lapeer Senior High would like to express our gratitude to our school board for the site in the construction of our new high school. So often, we forget the blood, sweat, and tears that are unfolded in a project of this nature. We trust that you our representatives of the community will carry on in this same manner in the years to come. For the greatest asset we can leave our children is an education. MR. R. C. Marcia plans to attend the University of Michigan to study languages or liberal arts. 66 Class History FRESHMEN YEAR We, the class of 1962, made our way Into Lapeer High School as eager freshmen. Leading the class were Marcia Wight -man. president; Dick Montgomery, vice president; Diane Steward, secretary; and Judy Rowden, treasurer. Our first big test of courage came in the form of the annual field day with the sophomores. The sophomores, having an edge in experience, gave us a beating. Forgetting defeat, we came back and put on a fine prom for the sophomores. Our freshmen year ended without further incident. SOPHOMORE YEAR In the fall of 1959, as confident sophomores, we elected Dick Montgomery, Curt Carter. Diane Steward, and Marsha Vese-ly as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer respectively. In what proved to be the last freshmen-sophomore field day at the old high school, we won by a wide margin and were treated to an enjoyable dance by the losers. Spring came and with it was the annual Student Council election. Our candidates, Tom Conner, president; Bob Duckwall, vice president; Nancy Rice, secretary; and Mary Lynne June, treasurer, made a valiant try but were defeated by a fine junior slate. We closed our sophomore year with the preparation of the floral rope for Swingout. JUNIOR YEAR Heading the way up the tree of knowledge and into our junior year were Tom Conner, Roger Keeran, Diane Steward, and Marcia Wlghtman. Our play, The Call of The Banshee. was proclaimed one of the biggest successes in L.H.S. history. Student Council election rolled around again and Roger Keeran, president; Alex Lebodovych, vice president; Nancy Rice, secretary, and Marsha Vesely, treasurer, swept into office. When spring arrived, we chose Bali Hal as the theme for a wonderful Junior-senior prom. The annual Swingout concluded another fine year at Lapeer High School. SENIOR YEAR In 1961, as seniors, we looked forward to our most eventful year, which was to take place in new surroundings, for a new high school had been built. Chosen to lead us through this fruitful year were Cun Carter, president, with Dick Montgomery, Carol Hunt, and Gwen Davidson as vice president, secretary, and treasurer respectively. Another successful play was presented by the class of 1962. Icebound was a three act drama, starring Rob Schadel and Robena Geniser. After a fine prom put on by the Juniors, we enjoyed a wonderful trip to Niagra Falls. Upon our return, things started to move at a quicker pace. All too soon came Baccalaureate. Honors Night, and finally Commencement. Although we were proud to be the first class to pass through the halls of such a fine new school, it seemed almost unbelievable that our high school days were over. The class of 1962 has thoroughly enjoyed its years at Lapeer High School and will never be able to say enough for the help and guidance that was given to us by the administration, the faculty, our sponsors, and our fellow students that we left behind to carry on. Respectively, Curt Carter 67 Capeer Senior Higd Varsity eam 4-5 Record The Lapeer Panthers took some glory on their shoulders in spite of a not too impressive season by achieving a 3-1 record in Tri-Conference play. Even though it holds no strong power of setting school policy, it does discuss and vote on factors that are pertinent to school life of every student. This year the big debate hinged around the problem of, how should the homecoming queen and her court be elected'. Feelings were so great on this issue that student council brought the problem right down to the classroom to seek advice. As will always hold true in a democratic society, the majority reached a decision while the minority still held out with mixed feelings. It goes without saying that the young men and women of our school who took pan directly in our student council activities should be commended for their effons and dedication of office which they were elected. Homecoming Queen Mary Cynne ‘June THE WEATHERMAN swept in cold weather while oux football team brought in a warm victory to help celebrate festive occasion of homecoming. Mary Lynne June, was selected as homecoming queen by popular vote of the student body. Mary Lynne, drum majorette, took her position as homecoming queen during the half time ceremonies. Roger Keeran, student council president, officially crowned her as royal head of homecoming. The queens court was made up of Nancy Rice, Bobett Clemens, Liz Van Dusen, Joan Thayer, Charlene Walker, Marcia Vesley, and Penny Kay Hughes.
