Our first task was to elect our class officers. We chose Mick Coulter as President; Nancy Pickard as Vice President; Sharon Beardsley as Secretary; and Larry Bark-house as Treasurer to lead us through our first year and to great success. We were defeated by the sophomore class in the annual freshman-sophomore field day. In the spring we gave the sophomores a wonderful dance. Before we realized it, June was here and we were sophomores. With one year of experience behind us, we came back in the fall of 1952 as sophomores, to choose wisely these people to lead us through another exciting year: Mick Coulter as President; Ted June as Vice President; Linda Troy as Secretary; and Nancy Pickard as Treasurer. Following the elections we put on a superb assembly which was liked by everyone. The field day was here again and we trounced the freshmen and enjoyed the party we were given. We now had our big chance to prove we were mighty, and we did! by winning the Student Council elections. The officers were President, Mick Coulter; Secretary, Marlene Peterson; Treasurer, Sharlene Upper. It was spring and we had the honor of making the floral rope for the seniors to carry in the annual Swing-Out parade, ending our sophomore year. Then we were back as hopeful juniors. Our class officers were: Larry Muir, Jim Scrimger, Joanne Barrett, and Larry Barkhouse. We put on a colossal play called Great Expectations starring Jerry Laidler and Marlene Hill. In the spring we broke a tradition by having all four of our Student Council candidates swept into office. They were President, Mick Coulter; Vice President, Larry Muir; Secretary, Marlene Peterson and Treasurer, Sharlene Upper. We then chose a Glenn Miller theme for the most terrific prom this school had ever had. School was over, for the summer and the day we had been awaiting had come. We were high and mighty Seniors! !! ! We began this busy year with the election of our class officers. Our leaders for this year were Ron Mahaffy, President; Dale Lick, Vice President; Sharon Beardsley, Secretary; Larry Barkhouse, Treasurer. There was much to do this last year, such as putting out the Pantherscope, edited by Jerry Deverell with the help of his co-editors Mary Martus and Linda Troy and the staff; the senior play, The Importance of Being Earnest, with a terrific cast; the wonderful prom; our unforgettable trip to Sault St. Marie; and all too soon the excitement of Baccalaureate, Honors Night and finally the grand finale--Commencement. Our hustling, bustling high school days had come to an end, sending each senior out into the world to become the person of his choice. Our senior year was undoubtedly the best of all our school years. We knew the last four years had been trying for the teachers just as much as they had been for us. But, in all sincerity, we the Senior Class would like to express our appreciation to all the teachers for putting up with us. We would especially like to thank our senior class sponsors: Miss Smocke, Mrs. Weaver, Mr. Thiemkey, and Miss Keith, along with our beloved Mr. Seaton and Mr. Schickler. Class President, Ron Mahaffy CLASS PROPHECY Dear Diary, Many things have happened to the members of the Class of '55 during the past ten years. I have been in Russia with my ambassador husband so I find that time has made many changes. Yesterday I was walking down Nepessing, and whom should I meet but Dr. Bowker making a call on a sick cow; Mary Martus and Jane Shepherd were going along as his scrub nurses! As I walked by Colby Potter's souped-up Cadillac jalopy, I heard Tex Barkhouse and discovered that he was on the radio, replacing Smiling Max. Sherry P. Barkhouse accompanied Tex in the background. I was talking to Sharlene Upper; she said Ron Mahaffy is overseas in battle', and she isn't sending any Dear John letters either. Ralph Duerden is now on Arthur Godfrey's program, replacing Julius LaRosa--with humility. There goes Digger Muir in his hearse; he ojvns the funeral home now. Well, I just came from Louie's, and Darwin Eastman is now billiards champ in Michigan. Mick Coulter has replaced Earl Fisher and takes on challengers! Last night I was watching the Lone Ranger who is played now by Paul Coffeen, with Bob Wagner as Tonto. Later Playhouse of Stars was on with Peggy Cathey, Sharon Beardsley, Sheila Weaver, Paul Van Kleek, Dick Ross, and Sandra Schultz. At 7:30 Jim O'Connor was on with his bedtime stories of Elmer for the kiddies, with Wayne Parsh doing the sound effects. On WMPC-TV Jerry Laidler was delivering a sermon with vocal numbers by Marjorie Nass. Over on WXYZ Sharon Lang was starring in Dag mar's place with Fred Marlow as M. C. ! The phone just rang! Marlene Peterson just called and said she just won the Mrs. America contest and that Sally Smith and Jack Weir are still saving for their dream house--penny a kiss. Also that lovely Linda Troy has two little ones named Linda and Harold, Jr. Barbara Rice, Phyl Davis, and Nancy Dykes are still scrimping for a triple wedding! Jerry Deverell is the staff photographer. In the magazine there is a picture of the president of the Grain Company who is on a trip to Europe with his family. I guess Mike enjoyed his first trip so much he wanted his family to see it all. A1 told me he'd stopped in to see Betty McGeorge and Luella Mclnally; they are now housewives and they'd had a wonderful time reminiscing. A1 stops pretty often at a gas station run by Ted June: gas is 18f a gallon. Jane Poillion, Sharon Paslean, Yvonne Van Alstine and Ruth Wangler have incorporated and have a large beauty salon in Lapeer.
