In an effort to give scholastic achievement some of the luster and social status usually reserved for sports, Lapeer East has become very active in the High School Quiz Bowl concept. Competition this year has involved appearances of WFUM (Channel 28) plus organized competition within the Flint Metro League. This year’s team is made up of six students who survived a week of strenuous tryouts in October while competing against 65 other students for this prestigious team. Team members are Captain Eric Mcalpine (9), Mike Bosnic (10), Lisa Collins (10), Robert Uy (10), Jeff Street (11), and Stan Russel (12). Since their first televised competition in November, the Lapeer East quiz bowl has compiled quite an impressive record. In addition to defeating Clio by a score of 165 to 25, East defeated a strong team from Kearsley by a score of 170 to 125. At the halfway point of the season Lapeer East was the only undefeated team with a record of 5-0, with the following results: East 350 — Lakeville 120, East 185 — Holly 165, East 265 — Linden — 135, East 265 — West 190, and East 520 — Fenton 110. According to Coach David Kirkpatrick, “Not only are the team members highly competitive but they are also a very close knit team with an outstanding attitude toward this competition.” 128 ACTIVITIES WE HAVE ...
