The students worked very hard trying to improve the Student Council and the school. Todd Rowden, S.C. President, said, âOne of the major goals of this yearâs Student Council is to get the students more involved in school activities and to get the students to care more about their school. â It was agreed upon that class treasurers and secre- taries should be members of Student Council. This has very good results. Another important improvement was the amending of the Student Council Constitu- tion. The Student Council organized many activities this year, including Homecoming and Coming Home, and sponsored two assemblies for the student body. Everyone involved in this yearâs Student Council seemed to enjoy it very much. King, Lisa Ward, Rhonda Bums, Amy Anderson, Kim Owens, The yearbook staff was not large this year, but they did a lot of work. Every day, after school you could expect to find the yearbook room full of staff members busily working on layouts and the darkroom full of photographers trying to keep up with the demands put on them. And then there were the deadline days. They were the busiest and the most fun. One time, the staff stayed after school until 12 a.m. to meet a deadline. But McDonaldâs was close, so they survived. Most members agreed that being on the staff means putting in a lot of time and hard work, but it also gives you a great feeling of satisfaction when you know you helped. Also, spending all that time together forms many lasting friendships. Co-editors, Kim and Amy said, âWe wouldnât have missed it for anything.ââ Turn off the lights, shut the door, ... says Mr. White. 100 Activities Working Hard, And Having Fun Kim and Amy are NEVER grouchy! It was a time that many people will always remem- ber. The King candidates, Danny Walker, Daryl Bentley, Scott Jarvis, Ed Lagness, Paul Sohlden, and Pete Sohlden, and the class representatives, Junior, Mike Holt, Sophomore, Greg Jarvis, and Freshman, Brian Pasek will surely never forget the experience of being chosen by their classmates. And the highlight of the week â the moment when Scott Jarvis was named Coming Home King 1982 will never be for- gotten, especially by Scott. The week of February 15 was Spirit Week. Mon- day was Future Day, Wednesday was Punk Rock Day, Thursday was 60âs Day, and Friday was Green and Gold Day. Tuesday there was no school for students, which added even more spirit. This year, the theme of the Coming Home wall decorating contest was Childrenâs Stories. The Sen- ior Class won with their âThe Jungle Storyââ wall. They also won last year. The Student Council bought a plaque for this competition. The plaque was placed in the showcase, and each year the winner will be engra ved on it. This was our second Coming Home and hopefully there will be many more. Congratula- tions Scott! 102 Activities The King candidates and class representatives during the assem bly. This year saw the Varsity Basketball Team successfully defend its Metro-League crown for the fourth year in a row. Leading the team were Bill DeKierk, Justin Krehel, and Ed Thick. Ed set a new school record with a game high 3 7 points this year against Mt. Morris. He also led the entire Metro-League in scoring, with an average of 22.5 points per game. In addition, the Eagles set a new school scoring record by averaging 74.1 pts. per game. The best game this year was the second game against Holly. Said coach Gleason, âIt was tough, first of all, because we had to play at Holly. They had a packed house and it was really noisy. Holly was up for the game. They were determined to beat us. â But the Eagles were more determined and ended up winning 72-64. With a final regular season record of 18-2, it is no wonder why the Eagles are a well-respected basketball team. 121 Sports Coach McKenzie The Lapeer East Varsity Vol- leyball Team did very well. They first proved their power to com- pete with the best and suceeded when they beat Fenton, who were ranked 10th in the state and who are tied for first with East in the Metro League. The also proved their superiority when they won the Lakeville Invitational, bring- ing home a 1st place trophy and medals. Lead by team captains, Dawn Chandler and Cheri Millis, who was awarded Athlete of the Month for her Fine performance in volleyball and other sports, this yearâs team revialed their high capabilities on all areas of the floor. The teamâs strongest serv- ers were Dawn Chandler and Diane Dorr, who was also a strong hitter. Strong Blockers for the team were Kim Dunmire and Sally VanCura. To make each play swing into action the team relied on Cheri Millis and Ann Berry, the teamâs strongest set- ters. Making a point was enough to keep teamâs spirits up, but when and if doubt crossed the thoughts of the team, it was up to Jodi St. Pierre and Ann Berry to keep up the teamâs moral. 122 Sports Lake Orion Won 'Ml. Coach Namenye said their good record was attributed to the girlâs working together well and the ambition they put into their striving to keep in 1st place. The team was said to be well balanced with the same number of Freshmen, who are Filling in their proper space, as there were Sophomores, who lent their experience from the previous year. Not only were they well balanced between the two grades, but also between talents. As setters there were Trina and Teresa Hathaway backed up by Roxanne Jannette and Perri Forfar; as spikers, Tina Stresen-Reuter, Kim Ratliff, Mary DeVor and Kathy Pierce; and as servers, Kim Ratliff, Mary DeVor and Tina Stresen- Reuter. While at this game the girls may have used their 4â2 offence with a good bump, set and spike, which the girls have been working hard to improve. It was the best ninth grade game Iâve ever seen. When asked how he felt about the overall season. Coach Nakoneczny replied. I donât like losing to West. West and East freshmen are the best around. I think in the next three years people are going to sec some classic battles. The high point of our season was scor- ing 8lpts. to set a new freshmen record. We also had a 57 pt. per game scoring average, which is a new record. The future of our Eagle team looks promising.
