Vice President, Kelly Dunmire, helps the members make the decisions on many different issues they decide on. Secretary Meg Warner is there to take notes on the meeting so they may be referred to later. Then comes Treasurer Natalie Smith, who keeps records on the income and outgo of money. President: Chris Potter BEAUTY AND 12 THE EAGLES Lapeer East celebrated its second annual Homecoming on October 14, though its first ever in the Eagle Stadium. Lapeer East fans welcomed Sheri Clark, who was escorted by Mike Ongena, as their 77-78 Queen. Theresa Bulzan, 76-77 Queen, crowned Sheri during halftime. On the field with Sheri were Robin Foster, accompanied by Chris Potter, Shan- non Boyden, with Bill Koza, Terri Ribble and Jeff Wonch, Lori Pelette and Greg Jensen, and Natalie Smith, escorted by Dan Millis. On the court, representing their classes, were junior Rhonda Hackney, sophomore Shelly Sweeney, and freshman Jill Coppa. Downtown students enjoyed a parade of floats, in which the juniors won with the theme Gonna Fly Now . Afterwards the Ea- gle football team played a close, tense game with Holly, the final score being 13-14. The following morning the girls tried their luck, as the Junior Juveniles played a powder puff game against the Senior Bonafieds, the final score: S.B. 38 J.J. 34. Two close games. Then the Homecoming weekend came to an end with a Homecoming Dance for which the Teasers provided the entertainment. — What a weekend. 13 EAGLE BANDS ARE MARCHING BY All the Lapeer East Bands swing to the tune above, and under the direction of Mr. Joesph Dobos, they kick out some moving music. Marching band can be found at any home game, entertaining the fans and pulling off half-time shows with plenty of flair. After the rough and ready pace of marching band, symphony band is a quiet but exciting change. The symphony works hard for concerts and district festivals that round out the season. Concert band is busy too, with preperations for concerts, in which they back up the symphony. These concerts are a very important part of the bands active life. Besides these three main established bands, things are happening in the band room too. Pep band is nestled in the eagle aerie on home-game nights, helping build enthusiasm and spirit with rousing songs. With all this being done, and well at that, the bands certainly have the right to “raise their heads. HAMS AT HEART k Everyone got into the act, as stu- dents and faculty fired up for the Homecoming game. The true image of the students was brought out when everyone came to school in rags and tatters. Tuesday, the halls were filled with movie extras, as stu- dents walked around in disguise with their hats and shades. Childhood memories of lollipops and blankets came on Wednesday and students brought their favorite toys and stuffed animals to comfort them Thursday. Everyone wore green and gold to end Spirit week in true Eagle fashion. 16 THEY KEPT OUR FIRES BURNING At any game they could have been spotted, waving pompoms, cheering like crazy and leading the crowds with chants. In fact, the Pep Club had en- ough spirit to catch the whole school afire. They worked hard making pos- ters, selling hats and buttons, so that everyone would see the Eagle spirit. Events the club sponsored included pep bus rides, a float for homecoming and a dance. Officers leading the Pep Club spirit were President Bev Sweet and Secretary-Treasurer Brad Spencer. Although it took work to keep the flame burning, they never com- plained. 17 WEEK RIGHT OUT OF THIS WORLD If you were from another planet and decided to visit Lapeer East High, the week of February 13-17, a report back to the mother planet might have went like this: They tag each other on Monday, these people are possessive. Hearts seem to be big on Tuesdays as they celebrated Valentines day, a time for sharing and caring. Nice touch. They do dress odd on Wednesday, something their parents did back in a time known as the 50's. Thursday and Friday are times for couples. They traded clothes and things, then dressed alike. On Saturday it was time to boggie down to Twilight Express. Pretty wild, this place called La- peer East High. They sure don't need our culture, mix the two and boy what a world! 18 20 MAKING THEIR OWN KING Directoring Choir, Swing Choir and Glee Club is Mr. Morris. With only four members, taking the stand of affirmative is (below right) Scott Staunton and Gary Cripps. And the negative being Carol Dubois (far left) and Darryl Castellio (left). The club mem- bers glide along the wonderful stuff, having the time of their life. Where can you find these happy-go-lucky people? Why skiing on the slopes of the Pine Knob Ski Resort, of course. Mr. Putnam and Mr. Gerlach, the ad- visors of the group have just as much fun as the rest of the gang. All in all, the group, who usually met to go skiing on Wednesdays, have some pretty wild times living it up on the slopes. 28 EAGLES’ LETTERMEN The Varsity Club is an organiza- tion made up of students who have participated in a varsity sport. As a group they set up meetings, plan money raising pro- jects for field trips such as. Michi- gan State basketball games, and a canoe trip. A giant sparkling ball revolved slowly, spreading its circles of light over the dance floor. With an atmosphere like that, and plenty of music to dance to, Dreams of 78” was a beautiful happening. Arguing her case were her attorneys Brad Spencer and Chris Potter, with help from her witnesses, Bob Tucker and Pam Daley. Loser in the case was defendant Gregg Ver Plank and his attorneys Meg Warner and Robin Foster. Even the de- fendant's witnesses, Renee Robbins and Doug Forfar could not help, as the plantiff brought suit against her coach for injuries she received during football practice. The court reporter was Julie Lagalski, with clerk, Kim Coulter and baliff, Paul Baguley rounding out the La- peer East day in court. Renee states the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but Brad is asking just what happened. Chris Potter — Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury ... ia 1 THE LAST MILE The annual Swing Out was in the evening this year and started with the Seniors singing the Alma Mater before they started their traditional march through downtown Lapeer. The crew took off for the 1800’s with John Mitchell as Captain Corcoran commanding. The excitment of the play didn't come from the seas, as much as from what went on in the HMS Pinafore. It all started out when Josephine played by Jill Webster loved Ralph played by Ron Garrison. Unfortunately the Captain wanted her to marry Sir Joseph played by Hugh Caley. That was just one of the many problems. With so much going on aboard it was amazing the ship stayed afloat, but it did, and with a happily ever after ending at that. TONS OF FUN Dance to the Sunny Side of the Street. Talent ... it’s a big part of Lapeer East High. The cream of the crop performed at the 3rd annual Variety Show, put on by the Glee Club and directed by Mr. Morris. Laughter and fun was the main goal of the entrees, but some serious acts were included, such as singing and dancing to the ever popular “Prune Juicers” and the Glee Club on broadway. Skits supplied more laughs, such as Lapeer’s rendition of the Gong Show. Not only did the students putting on the show enjoy it, but the audience as well. SHAKE IT!!! 171 WITH ARTS Mimes, Derrick and Celeste, entertained crowds. When was the last time you watched a Pentathalon? Any one who went to the Fine Arts Festival this year, found this new addition. It's a pot throwing contest between East and West, there were a few catches of course. A couple were, not being able to use your hands or perhaps trying it blindfolded. Inspite of all the crashing pots, East won over West. Not only was East ahead in the Pentathalon, but as well as the other arts that entered. In jewelry and drawing, we brought home all three ribbons. In pottery, first and second places were won; in painting and fabric we brought in second prize; photography snapped up second and third; and sculpture received first and third. 173 Besides winning a lot of awards, students also had fun in the sun. Not only did the artist show up, but the mime groups caught everyones attention, too. Admirers were also entertained by the Swing Choir and Watson’s Band, and for those rare moments between shows, a few were able to get in a little frisbee. I caught it! 174 THE FORENSICS FOLLIES Forensics! Whats that? Thats what most people say when you talk about the Lapeer East Forensics team. The team is actually part of a competitive speech program that is sweeping a large number of high schools here in Michigan. Just what does the team do? Well, working in groups or alone, the members put on a variety of different sketches, acting out people from children’s stories, novels and even real-life dramas. The result is an extremely interesting collage of acts with little if any props to support the actors. 175 Mt. It helps you with your future educa- tion as far as trade is concerned. CHRIS SCHROEDER I feel that the Vo-Tech center is an excellent place to get training for a job. They have excellent fa- cilities and you are treated as if you were at a job. not at school. Their grading system and teach- ers are O.K. also. DON HILTZ I think the Vo-Tech center is really great, it's not like school, you out go and participate in things. You don’t just set around listening to your teacher lecture. LINDA ROWLEY I feel the Vo-Tech program should be expanded to a full six hours to give the students more credit in actual working hours. After all what good is english and history to someone going into a skilled trade? JIM ADAMS I think that if you are really in- terested in what you are taking, then the Vo-Tech program can be a very good thing. TAMI WINSLOW It is an alright place if you stay involved in your work. ALLISON MCMANN FUTURE FLORENCE NIGHTINGALES I think the Nurse’s Aid program is a RIOT! You learn a lot of new things. There couldn’t be any better or nicer teachers than Mrs. Reamer and Mrs. Daunt. I would like to thank them for all they have done for us. THANKS! DEBBIE HESSLER It is very rewarding. I think this program teaches not only nursing procedures, but how to deal with all types of people. It is a very good experience. TERRI RIBBLE Being in the Nurse’s Aid program has been really rewarding. Its given me the opportunity to learn more about myself and learn to respect others. This program brings you closer to people working in it gives you the chance to experience many fields. This program is very reward- ing. I would recommend any junior to apply for this program. GLORIA KALLER It is a great opportunity to learn while you can. Piedad — I can’t say which of the two countries is better, I like them both because they are different. Isabelle — I've learned to live in America, it is not always easy, but I like to see another way of life. Outi — I have found it very interesting to get to know many people, new school and a different way of life.” Finn — The biggest difference is the way the peoples attitudes are towards energy, pollution other people etc. 152 % V e S X ■= . rO, VJ ' ci 3. o , - v -s5 - VxXXXX £ X X %% Sz% My life is like a pair of jeans.
