Baselior and Lansing Participate in Tri-County Event Friday Three schools, Tonganoxie, Lansing and Basehor, shared top honors in the Tri-County One- Act play festival held Friday evening March 9. Professor Dale Purcell of the Speech Department at Ottawa University judged the event which was held in Tonganoxie. Easton, Jarbalo and Piper were awarded second divisior ratings. Linwood High School did not enter a play in the event. Tro- phies were awarded to the three schools receiving first division ratings. The Lansing play, Flight of the Herons, directed by Frank Graham, was cast as follows: Anna Kerenoff, Carolyn Hobbsg Caterina Kerenoff, Sophia Nich- olsong Mitri Koslov, Larry For- bachg Ivan, Robert Trimble and Micheal, Wayman Hartman. The organization of the Lansing Rural High School Chorus of sixty voices was a new addition to the Curriculum of our school in the fall. The first public appearance for both the chorus and the band occurred Sept. Z3when the music dept. was represented onboth the afternoon and evening programs for the Home Coming and Dedication of our new gymnasium. On Oct. 21, in Leavenworth the chorus presented two numbers for the Leav- enworth County Teachers Association at the Methodist Church. Under the coach- ing of Earl Johnsmeyer the Lions have won for their school 18 first place trophies in softball,basketba1l,and track dur- ing the past three years. In addition the 1950 Lions were runners up in the Kansas State Class B Tournament. As the Lions Roar goes to press our boys are looking forward to the track and baseball season of 1951. In three years our basketball team has won 77 games against only 3 defeats, two of their losses were by 1 point and the other was to Downs in the state finals. During this period L. H. S. scored 5,329 points against 2,810 for the opposition. For the 80 games we averaged 66.6 against 35.1 points for the opposition. Four of our boys, Wayne Seymour U9491, Don McQuillan fl9501, Charles Seymour f19501, and Bill Young fl9501were placed on all state teams. The lead- ing scorers during this period were as follows: McQuillan, 14623 C. Seymour, 11603 Young, 9803 Henchek, 776, and W. Seymour 508.
