CLASS OF '56 Paris - The class of 1956 of the Lansford High School, Lansford, Pennsylvania, USA, will be in Paris today where they will hold their class reunion in the Reunion Room at the Moulin Rouge. Since this will be one of the most important social events of the season, we, of the Paris Press, have decided to give a short summary of their high school years. SEPTEMBER '52 to JUNE '53 fThe class began their Freshman year under the guidance of Miss Scarlos and Miss Holmes and with Stroud Connor acting as president. They were kept busy getting to know each other, for the class was made up of pupils from three different schools. The two main events of the year were the class play and an outing to the Hershey Amusement Park. Most of their projects for that year were successful, but one that failed was their campaign to secure escalators to the third floor. All in all, the year was a busy one, for many new things were learned and many new friends acquired. SEPTEMBER '53 to JUNE '54 f With more experience and confidence than the year before, they started their Sophomore year with the help of Mrs. Marks and Miss Wynn. They chose as their president Robert Montgomery. A very successful class play was presented which included most of the class. It was then realized that there were many talented actors and actresses in the group. Many of the boys took a more active part in sports, and it was discovered that the class contained many athletes also. They left school, eagerly anticipating the next year. SEPTEMBER '54 to JUNE '55 Y As Juniors, they were occupied with new and im- portant school activities. Under the direction of Mr. Vaiana and Mr. Wernert and with James Gormley as president, they began their activities by choosing class rings. As Thanksgiving neared, they started work on the class play in which were combined all the American ideas of Thanksgiving. Then began the preparation for the most im- portant event of the year, the Junior Prom. Class dues were collected, and a record dance was held as a means of raising the needed funds. The theme of this memorable evening was Paris. The decoration committee did a wonderful job, making the gym an amazing replica of our fair city. This concluded their third year. Though all were looking forward to the Senior year, there was a note of sadness present at the thought of leaving such a wonderful year behind. SEPTEMBER '55 to JUNE '56 - During their final year of high school the class was under the leadership of Russel Earley as president and Miss Scott and Miss Holmes as advisers. The most important project that year was the yearbook, and they were kept busy trying to raise the funds necessary. This was accomplished by working at the Concession Stand during the home football games, scurrying around getting patrons and ads, running record and orchestra dances, and the old stand-by, collecting class dues. The gym looked beautiful for the Christmas dance, and once again the decoration com- mittee Was to be congratulated. The class play, Letty'.v Chriftma: Prodigal, presented the week before Christmas, was a huge success. With this behind them, work for the Class Night and Commencement programs had to be started. It was worth all the effort, however, for both programs went off beautifully. The class left school on June 7, 1956 with mixed emotions, and with the hope that each and every one would attain the goal set in the class motto - Beyond tomorrow lies success. The crowd is now gathering in the Reunion Room here at the Moulin Rouge. The big event is the class reunion of the Class of 1956 of Lansford High School, Lansford, Pennsyvlania, U.S.A. Many of the members of the class haven't seen each other since graduation ten years ago and are greeting each other enthusiastically. During the course of the program, I will have some of the members of the class come to the microphone and say a few words. To be in the interviews, here is Russel Earle , former class resident, who is now g Y P Lieutenant Russel Earley ofthe U. S. Navy. Tell us, Lieutenant, how were you able to get to the reunion? I thought your ship was at sea. Well, Andre, as it happens, my ship has been on a cruise in the Mediterranean. Last night we docked at Marseilles, and I caught a late train to Paris. I just got here and haven't seen anybody yet, so if you'll excuse me . . . Thank you, Lt. Earley. He has hurried off to greet two new arrivals, Margaret Jech and Nick Demyan, who designed the 1966 Cadillac. With them are Captain Nancy Ambrose and Major Jane Probert, both of the United States Air Force. Dashing over to meet them is Bette Jevchak, who is currently modeling the latest Paris fashions for BAZAAR magazine. We shall leave this happy group together, and shift our cameras across the room to a foursome who are sampling the crepe suzettes. There are Dorothy Kiripolsky, head nurse at Temple, and Patsy Rickert, foreign correspondent for the NEW YORK TIMES. Luckily, Patsy's latest assignment and the reunion coincided. With them are Bill Thomas, who is now an orchestra leader in the top ten bracket, and David Rubart, who owns a chain of drugstores which are putting Sun-Ray Stores out of business. Did you hear that noise? I'll make my way to the door and see ifI can find out what caused it. Oops, steady! Oh, it's Stroud Connor, President of General Motors Corp., and his secretary, Anita DeGiosio. Tell us, Stroud, what was the crash? Well, actually, Mr. Brandeau, I myself caused the commotion. You see, I found myself to be a little late, and naturally I didn't want to be, so I stepped it up a little and saw the pole too late. Now my brand new Chevy has a dented front bumper. Is there a mechanic in the house? Answering Mr. Connor's inquiry are John Bydlon and Stanley Karnish, owners of the famous Stash and Jash Garages. Stroud's car is in good hands for the boys got their knowledge of mechanics at STAN'S where they spent a great deal of time during their high school days. On the other side of the room, james Gormley, now Burgess of Lansford, is leading a rousing discussion on the curfew with five of the town's leading citizens: Peter Mikolajczyk, Chief of Police, John Haughton and Martin Domines, proprietors of Cy-Ny Pool Room, Florian Gargula, owner of the town's largest department store, and Paul Jurik, town mortician. Just arriving is a group of sight-seers who were taking a quick look at Paris under the able direction of Joan Ruback, who has been studying art here for the past few years. The weary tourists are Rita Brinkos, Bacteriologist with the Lehigh Valley Dairyg Rita Digilio and Mary Ellen Sniscak, who have created hair styles for such important CContinued on page 793 77 CONGRATULATIONS To The Class of 1956 wil? Dashing in to join Adele Lazar, now a Broadway dancer, is Bernard McGonigle, who has taken time off from his business at Monte Carlo for the occasion. With Adele is Margaret Kollar, her personal friend and private secretary, who answers all her fan mail. In another vivacious gathering are Paul Kralicek and Edward Kozel, owners of a famous orchestra, who are talking over old times with Theresa Pazo and Cecilia Stalma, now nurses, and Ann Koshuta, Lansford High's Phys. Ed. teacher. Oh, there's Congressman Thomas Shober, finally tearing himself away from a group which includes Daniel Wasilko, winner of the Indianapolis 500, ten times in succession, Suzanne Tomchik, Dean of Girls at Vassar, and Bernardine Vanak, steward- ess for TWA. Tell us, Tom, what were you discussing so earnestly? Some business at the Capitol in Washington PH Why, no, we were having a friendly argument over the possible outcome of this year's World Series. Are you enjoying yourself here? Yes, I'm glad to be here today, in fact, I'm lucky to be here at all because of my busy schedule. Now if you'll excuse me, I must go to find my capable secretary, Anita Williams, and see if she has managed to book a flight home. We must leave immediate- ly after the festivities. Thank you, Congressman Shober. Now entering the room is Janice Koller, President of U.C.L.A. She is being greeted by Lois Jones, who is currently in Paris making arrangements for a showing of her priceless paintings. Lois is leading Janice over to meet James Delauretes, well-known in the theatrical world, Robert Weaver, who plays pro-football for the Los Angeles Rams, and Joseph Koin, manager of the Phila- delphia Eagles. Oh, there's a group I almost missed. The classmates gathered here are Theresa Rusnak, interior decorator who has done over the White House in Washington, Thomas Sandri, President of Sandri Supermarkets known throughout the United States, Irene Yevchak and Mary Lou Cerisini, owners of a secretarial school, and Thomas Thomas, a helicopter pilot. It has just been brought to my attention that a telegram has been received by the Reunion Committee from the famous astronomer, Donald Mullin. He sends his regrets and reports that there's an extraordinary phenomenon expected to appear in the heavens and that he has to stay in his laboratory to study and observe it. The time is getting short, but before I sign offI must report that Paul Hackash, noted scientist and inventor, who is standing in that group over in the far corner of the room with his secretary, Lillian Miller, has been partially successful in producing a pill which would ensure a longer life for the human race. We wish Paul all the luck in the world with this experiment. If he is successful, the class will hold another reunion one hundred years from today in this same place. This is Andre Brandeau, your Paris news commentator, signing off. Au revoir . . .
